went up to dallas this past weekend for the Texas Greatest Athlete Multi-events meet.? did 3 events my coach and i felt like we needed to work on: long jump, high jump, and 110 hurdles.

the meet was set up to be a last chance olympic trials qualifier for some and others, like myself, could come and compete in a selected number of the events.? it was held at St. Mark's School of Texas, which is the most rediculous high school campus i've ever been to.? it was like a small college.? the facilities in most cases were nicer than most D1 schools i've seen.

the environment was so relaxed.? it didn't feel like?a make-or-break pressurized "last chance" meet.??it was full of camaraderie and encouragement.? everyone was light-hearted and happy to be there.

LJ:? i've only jumped twice this season.? once at the Texas Relays and it was a dissappointing 7.22m. the second time was at U of Houston from a short approach and each of my attempts got better and finished at 7.15m or so.? my technical sessions had been improving and i am starting to feel like i have some pop on the runway finally.? so my first jump was 7.56m.? the next two jumps were way off due to and inconsistent approach.

HJ:? i had to been having some good technical days in the hj as well.? i opened up at 1.91m and passed to 1.97m.? made the opening bar on my 3rd attempt! and the second bar on my second run up.? things are headed in the right direction here.? wish i could have cleared another bar, but there was a major flaw in my take-off that day... i wasn't jumping UP!

Day 2, 110h:? felt good warming up.? didn't do much over the hurdles before the start of the race.? after the false start, i felt calmer.? usually you'd feel more tense and nervous about coming out early.? but the race itself felt great through the first 6 hurdles, but then i just lost my focus for some reason, and became sloppy over the top and crashed 2 of the last 3 hurdles.? finished slow in 13.93.

all in all, i'm operating very close to my PR's and i've only done one 3 week cycle of speed intensive work.??i'm excited to hit one more week of some 30 meter flys and 150's.? then, nothing.? just sit back and relax, get a couple massages, see a chiropractor, take some naps, pretty nice little saturday, maybe go to home depot, bed bath and beyond, i don't know, i don't know if i'll have enough time.
