Austin Waldrop | Profile
September 6, 2009

This weekend I set two personal records. The first personal record was running 3 miles in 16:30 and the second record was doing 140 pushups non-stop, using the leanin rest position to rest. I did 90 pushups in the first 2 minutes and would have done more if it was a pt test. my goals before the end of the semester are 200 pushups straight and 3 miles in 15:30 more »

mileage cut and adjustments to mileage

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 31, 2009

This week I have cut my mileage some everyday, I will only run like 62 miles this week or so. That will help reduce risk of injury. Also next week, due to suggestions from friends and my old coach, I will cut my long run to about 14 miles and pick up the pace just a little bit, nothing unnecessary. more »

I did it again! The point this week was to increase the tempo run and I did not

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 28, 2009

Much to my disgust, I just seem to be doing the same mistake over and over again. I have been advised another way to do my tempo run and I did not do it. He is on to the proper technique for the tempo run by in some stupidity I did not do it. I went to the track and did my tempo run running my first lap in 1:20. The proper pace would be about 1:23 for my first lap or trying to average 5:35 for a distance of about 6 miles. That is how it SHOULD be. On… more »

Yes, the big 70 and I feel great.

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 25, 2009

I feel more refreshed at 70 mpw than 55 mpw.  70 miles is the upper limit.  Next summer I plan on starting out with 80 mpw from the very beginning and staying there.  The next 90 miles per week and my senior year 100 mpw.  more »

tommorows tempo run

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 20, 2009

tommorow I will add 1 mile to my tempo run and slow it down just a little bit so that I can do so. Hopefully by the time I get to practice with the team my tempo will be up to 6-7 miles. The goal is 7 miles at a 5:30 pace , passing the 10k mark in about 34:06 and passing my 7 mile mark at about 38:30. more »

My new bike and my first road bike

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 15, 2009

I went to dicks sporting goods and bought me an awesome bike for $210. It felt great! I have been doing ten mile bike rides all out on a bike at a 5:30 pace per mile but on this new bike I get on it and cruise and go sub-4 for every mile! I will be able to go further because it is designed for mileage and I will be more comfortable doing so. I get a wider range of motion than my old bmx bike and I am sitting up higher. This is going to be great. Yes, I… more »

I will build my mileage to 70 this week and that is The "cap"

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 13, 2009

I am building up my long run to its max length of 16 and I will adjust all of my other mileage so that I am running 70 for the rest of the weeks. That was my goal for the summer. I am pretty much there. All I need to do now is to stay off of the road when I can and hit the trails, rest up and enjoy the benefits. Next summer I will put in 80 miles per week, my junior year 90 miles per week and my senior year 100 miles per week. With long runs… more »

My love of reaching my personal limits leads me to get lost.

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 11, 2009

I ran a great race time today, a really good time, yet, I took a wrong turn and turned a 10k into like a 6.5 mile race. I guess I was sad that I would miss my long run and as a result , I ended up making a wrong turn. I made up the part about me being sad about missing my daily run but not the part where I ran extra. Talk about a bummer. This is the 2nd time that I have done this. The first time turned a 10 mile race into like a 11 mile… more »

Building an aerobic base

Austin Waldrop | Profile
July 8, 2009

For the last month I have been putting in mileage in the morning and occassionally doing a second daily run. When I do not do 2nd runs I complement my morning run with an afternoon long swim or a bike ride at an easy "heart healthy" pace. what does anyone else think about this? Will it help to boost my aerobic base? It does not seem to effect my runs at all . But I feel it helps to develop other muscle groups. more »

Mileage Will Plateau for this week and go to 60 for 3 weeks, then 65 for 3 last

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 29, 2009

I will have my long run built up this week and i will shorten some other runs to make the mileage the same. When I get 4 more miles on my long run i will stop building up. I will stop building up so erratically now that I am "back in shape." I will stay at the mileage for 3 weeks at a time because right now I am in peak condition from last year, better shape than last summer and at the highest mileage I attempted last year. I feel good so far with only a little soreness. I… more »

Improvement is all that counts

I will keep the same route because I like it and I am improving. When I go to do my 800m repeats in 2 weeks I will ask my coach if I can use our new track for my speedwork. If not I will see if he can GPS our football field and let me use it. more »

Garmin wake up call and bad news for mile intervals

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 23, 2009

I started using a Garmin this Tuesday, June 23, on my tempo run. I hate the watch, it is accurate yet, too accurate. Man that tempo run today hurt, I need to get used to them. As for my mile repeats I have some bad news. According to the Garmin my mile repeat route is only .89 miles! That is a little bothersome to me. It will prove to be another challenge to me. Who knows the watch might pay off. Yet, it is somewhat frustrating. more »

Long run

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 20, 2009

Next week i will slow down my long run pace because i am adding a mile and also so that I can do my tempo run better. I will stay at 55 miles for the duration of the "training block" ( about 3 more weeks.) for a total of 3 weeks at the total. more »

accuracy of yahoo maps , map quest, google maps, and car odometers?

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 18, 2009

I did my mile repeats today and I tripple checked my route on all the sites including usa track and field for a total of 6 sites and I read somewhere that if a device, which I forgot , in the car is off then the odometer is off and then I checked it in a car. The car got a shorter distance. Then again when i run, I run on the edge of the road. Why do my car and these map sites get different stuff. I hate to ruin a great interval session but the .1 a difference in the two measurements… more »

Mile repeats, great but i want to find the nearest bucket.

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 18, 2009

That really kinda was painful, it has been a while since I did that many mile repeats. Afterwards though, I felt great! I am happy that I met my workout goal and today I learned a little more about pacing strategy and focus. Hoorah. No more hard workouts this week. more »

Geez!

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 10, 2009

Coach Kut and all of my future teammates, you guys are gonna have to teach me how to run EASY! Today was 87 degrees in the shade and about 95 out in the sun and 70 % humidity and I ran that fast! I need to learn how to pace, going out at 2 minute 800m pace for the first part of my tempo runs and stuff like that is just messed up, it takes away the point of the workout. Oh well, I guess I should just be happy! more »

Workouts will be posted daily

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 8, 2009

After my workout in the morning and evening I post what I have gotten accomplished. By doing this , I will be forcing myself to run high quality work and in general, to get it done. That means i will get online twice per day, as I use the internet to "chill" in between training.  more »

Hoorah! ouch! A new calisthenics p.r

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 8, 2009

Today , for my own record and if anyone cares, I set a new record for crunches. Last month I set my record at non stop crunches to 3200 , today I smashed that record. I did 4001 crunches nonstop. It kinda hurt. yet I am not satisfied, next month , my goal is 4500 crunches nonstop, by the time I arrive at the Citadel my goal is 5000 nonstop. I love to push myself as anyone who knows me knows and I do my best knowing that my strength comes from God and that if my endurance is of… more »

Relay for Life rained out for me

Austin Waldrop | Profile
June 6, 2009

I was going to do the relay for life last night as far as the walk goes and I had a goal to walk 40 miles. However, due to the location change of the site as well as a continuous rain there was no where to walk and I decided that the sleep I missed and the risk for sickness was too much.  However, while I was there I saw that much had been done for those who have and currently have been afflicted with cancer.  For those fighting the cancer there was special parking and even though I had to park further back… more »
