Meet 2, Soreness, Gym Mile, and More!
Meet 2... Once again, we dominated, this time taking the top 10 spots. Though I ran only a second or two better than my PR, the race felt completely different. A teammate who had run JV last meet made varsity this time, and we pushed each other through the race. I went out faster than I did last time, but I felt that the pace slowed down a little bit before the polo field. (Last 1K). Though I had placed last by a second to my teammate who had run JV last time, I was still pretty happy because of us taking 1-10.
But as well as we've been doing so far, there are still some things to think about. County Championships. Winning it won't be easy. Though we've dominated the four teams we've faced so far, there are still teams better than us, and we still need work if we want to even think about being champions and going to states...
States... Though even if our team wins counties, I probably won't be in our top 7, but I'd still like to see our team at states, running against the hardest competition we'd ever have since we don't go to many invitationals. I think states is being held at Sunken Meadow in Suffolk County, so I'd definitely go to watch.
The day after:
It's like an exact repeat of the day after last meet, but slightly worse. I wake up slightly sore, have gym class 2nd period. Last time, we ran a hard 400. This time it was the terrible terrible gym mile that everyone besides the track runners dread. (I heard many people in the hallways complaining about it). I ran a 5:20 with little effort. (3rd for my class since there are like 7 kids on the team in my class.) I liked it better when there were no track kids in my class and I had tons of kids WTF'ing at my ability to run under 6:00, and WTF'ing even more when they hear I run 5 flat at actual track meets. 5:20's no big deal when a kid runs 4:50.
We had a similar workout to the day after last meet too, but a couple of things were tweaked around to make it harder.
I'm hoping I'm not as dead as I was two days after the meet.
