So Close...

I ran 18:02 for the last League Meet of the season. I thought that I'd be able to go sub-18 as long as I stayed with my teammate, Casey throughout the race. He immediately went out harder than me. I wasn't sure if I should stick with my plan or stay a little behind just to be safe. I chose to stay back and watch him. He eventually did slow down a little, but he was still ahead of me. I could've been a little closer but I got sidetracked racing two or so kids from Lynbrook who occasionally tried to surge ahead of me. I was able to hold them off, but I tried not to let these random surges ruin the race for me.

Polo field. I was still racing the kids from Lynbrook. Now it wasn't just random surges, it was full on speed that they would keep up for the rest of the race. I'm not sure what happened to one of them, but we were fighting to beat each other. In the beginning, he pulled ahead, but I pushed whatever I had left and I got in front of him. Technically, we weren't even in the same race, so we had to finish at different sides of the straightaway. I'm pretty sure that I beat the kid.

I was excited for the PR, but I wanted sub 18:00. Knowing that there's only two meets left for me, the Conference Championship race for JV and Frosh/Soph counties gives me two more chances. Then I remembered the end of school last year. Coach held a meeting for all of the Cross Country kids and had us right down a goal. I wrote 18:30. After being told that 18:30 wasn't going to be good enough, I changed it to 17:45. We're easing down this week, which I'm hoping will bring me to sub-18, and if I'm feeling really good, as close to 17:45 as I can get.
