This season...

This season hasn't worked out as well as I thought it would. After the break from XC, I never really felt that I got back into the same shape that I did at the end of the season. When I ran a 5:12 mile during practice after a 5:20 and a 4 mile run, I was sure I was going to run 4:50 right there. I was so excited for the track season because I thought that speed was my thing, and if I could run a sub-18 5K, I could run sub 2:10 in the 800m easy, and breaking 5 wouldn't be a problem.

And that clearly was not the case. My first race at the Nassau Coaches Meet was a sophomore 4x800. I ran the first leg in 2:17. That wasn't even a PR. We won, but I still wasn't happy about my time at all.

After the Nassau Coaches meet, I got sick with a stomach virus (most of the people who went to the meet also got sick, it spread like crazy), and that ended up in me not running for 3 days straight. Making it worse, the snow also prevented getting in any good workouts, so I wasn't really even able to get in a good workout before the next week.

And then came my next meet. 5:00.8 in the 1600m. Now that got me angry. I was told 4:59 by an official when I finished, but other watches said that I ran above 5, and I wasn't sure how much attention the official was paying. And then came the 600m, where I finally thought I would get to use my speed. 1:38. Pure garbage.

That was followed by uneventful an uneventful 2:55 followed by a 2:56 in the 1000m. I thought I was going to run faster in the 1000m too.

And I'm trying to figure everything out. I've been putting in a lot of effort into every workout (I'm clearly dead after almost every single one), and I don't feel like it's doing anything). I feel my teammates also expected me to be better too. I was one of the best Freshman Mid-Distance runners last year, but I didn't come close to a PR in the 800m. My 1600m only got 2 seconds better.
