Spring 2009 Goals

1600m - 4:59.9

This is my easiest and most realistic goal. As I've mentioned in previous blogs, I ran 5 flat on a non-banked 200m track, so I should be able to break 5 outdoors, easily. But who knows, I thought I was going to do it last spring, but I ran 5:02. Oh well. Once I break 5, my goal will go straight down to 4:48. Though it's a stretch, I figure that I won't be scoring any points anyway, so I might as well run a few "dangerous" races where I'll take it out harder than usual. If I want to be any good for my junior/senior year, I'm going to have to get a lot better. I might've been decent as a freshman, but I'm going to have to step it up now. There are plenty of sophomores in my section that can beat me now.

800m - 2:09

I thought I was going to be a beastly 800 runner this winter. I was wrong, as I didn't even PR. (I only ran 2:16 on a 160 meter track) Above 2:10 won't cut it at all. If I want to be "good", 2:09 certainly won't cut it either because I still probably wouldn't be able to touch half of the guys on my team. I hate it of course, but at least I don't really have any responsibility.

5K - 17:00

The first step of me even being able to RUN the 5K is convincing coach to let me run it. There is one meet this season where the 5K will be ran, and our coach has a history of rejecting any runner who wants to do it. Now I'm not even really interested in running the 3200m or any distance event really, but it would be cool to be the first on the team to run it in spring. Coach always says that it's too risky or dangerous to be running a 5K in spring. But the way I think of it, I'm a JV Baller, and if I get a small injury (i'm not hoping for one), it doesn't matter at all.

400m - 56.9

There's probably no way in hell I'll even be able to run the 400m. But it was my main middle school event, and I really miss it. My PR is currently 59 seconds, ran in gym class in Nike Dunks. (Those are NOT running shoes). Though I did run a time trial in actual flats in only 59.59, I wasn't going all out.

3200m - 10:15

As far as I see it, the 3200m is my only shot if I want to run in varsity divisions or counties. There's a kid on my team who isn't amazing, but was somehow able to sneak himself into the county championships. There are really only 2 good guys on the team that are interested in the 3200m. There are people who could easily beat me of course, but they won't run it. If I'm lucky, I'll run a 3200m or two in a decent time, and be able to sneak myself into some scoring.

Any Jumping Event - Be Good

Our team has plenty of distance runners, but lacks jumpers. If I can jump long/high/3 times and long, I get rid of two problems, the fact that running is hard, and the fact that I can't score points.
