And so far, I'm all talk and no walk. (run)

Remember that time I said there was no question that I would break 17:00? Well now there's plenty of question now considering I ran 17:30 a couple of weeks ago, and that's still my PR. I hyped up my season so much and I'm hardly running PRs. I could attribute it to being slightly sick, but I ran the first half of my XC season last year with a cold, so I'd think running like this wouldn't be a problem.

The workouts are definitely hard enough. I believe our shortest run so far this season was 5 miles, not including the 2 mile warmup. We've basically taken no easy days and are expected to run 10+ miles on our own on Sunday. Though I have cut back some miles on my Sunday runs, it does not supply enough "recovery" to keep me healthy. During the beginning of the season, I was running them well, but now my legs are starting to get worn down. My legs burn through warmups, and stretching hurts more than it should. I always have to hope my legs loosen up so I'm not looking terrible during the workout.

I haven't forgot the motivation that I had from my blog at the end of spring. I haven't forgotten how hard I want to be one of the best on the team and to go to states. I'm working hard, but it's starting to get to the point where I'm not able to handle it anymore. The thing is, I don't understand why I can't handle it. I know it's difficult, but then why can the top 4 handle it and I can't? Why is #5 by PR doing absolutely no fucking work at all and still running faster than me?

Why is it that during a race, I'm simply not able to push myself? Why does my body always tell me "I'll get this guy later", when in reality, I know that I'm dying, and I'm not seeing this guy until the race is finished. Why am I so afraid of making a move and dying? Why do I feel like I'm always running so slow, and that I'm letting people beat me that shouldn't?

Though the negatives most certainly outweigh the positives here, during a workout (dumb in my opinion) of 1x1600m, 2x800m, 8x400m, I finished the last 400m in 58 seconds. That at least gives me hope for breaking 2 in Spring. I've gotten more hope for winter/spring this season than anything, as I'm feeling a lot better about my speed than my stamina.
