Mt. Sac, The present and... the future.
April 23, 2008
Mt. Sac was this weekend and for anyone that was there or has looked at the results since you know that it was once again an awesome track meet. We drove down on Wednesday and most of the Chico runners ran in B sections on Thursday night. Lindsay and Brendan ran great 10k's and Dinora ran an awesome PR in the steeple despite stopping 200 meters early.
My race was late Friday night and was much anticipated. We were right on the heels of an awesome women’s race and the guys had a lot to live up to. The gun went off and the pace was perfect for me... But I made a lot of mistakes. I love racing from the back but as I get into better races it isn't working as well as it used to. In the top sections the pack stays bunched up together for longer than the B sections that I have been in the past so for me to move up I end up out in lane 2... and Mt. Sac was no exception (I ran at least half of the race away at least 1 person and sometimes 2 people out from the rail). On top of that I was racing scared, my mind was on 13:33 the entire time and I didn't want to take any risks whatsoever to risk missing the Auto time for the trials. I realize now that I was entirely capable of taking my 30 second 200 and stretching it out to be a 91-92 second 600 and taking second in the race but it was a great learning experience. All the complaining aside... It is a dream come true. I'm Going to the Olympic Trials! FOR SURE!
Today I did a pace run for 10 miles around 5:15 pace. It was really easy and really smooth.
I am really excited for Cardinal to see what I can do. I am shooting for the Olympic A standard and I will not be racing scared this time around. I will be tapering and I will watch what I eat better than I did before the 5k (my stomach did not like me last Friday night).
OK. My girlfriend is hungry and she must be fed.
