Training

There is a lot happening in the world of running right now and I am avoiding all of it. I am in the middle of my third week with team Running USA and I am getting fit. I have been doing workouts with the crew and turning my body into a finely tuned machine.
I'm not proud to admit but until the last few weeks I have avoided the weight room, been pretty lazy with core routines, rarely stretched and never had a massage. Everything is different now, we meet at the gym 6 times a week and rotate through core, flexibility, weights and anything else you can think of that will help someone become a better runner. I wake up each morning discovering a new sore muscle that I didn't know existed.
Altitude effects everyone differently and I am one of the lucky ones who adapts to it pretty easily. The only time I catch myself huffing and puffing is when I am either going really fast, like when we did 200 meter repeats or when I am running up hill. Whenever we have had a particularly long or steep hill I always look around to the other faces in the group hoping to see them showing the same agony that I am feeling, only be disappointed with the fact that they are completely unfazed by the challenge. Other than that, it seems like I have been able to mesh pretty quickly with the routine.
Terrence has been really helpful in my transition and I can tell that he is a great coach and has what it takes to coach me or anyone to the highest of levels. It was hard to leave Gary and Chico but I see a lot of the same personality traits in Terrence that I saw in Gary. The team has been pretty easy to join as well. Everyone on the team is nice and easy to get along with, it is easy to forget how accomplished they are as runners.
Everything changes when it is time for workouts. The level that we are training on as a group will take some getting used to but I know when I am fully adjusted, I will be very very good at running. In the mean time that means I will be getting dropped repeatedly by Ian Dobson, but I don't mind. I'm sure eventually I will catch him by surprise on one of his bad days.
Also switching topics, I am really excited for track season to roll around because I can't wait to race in the adiZero Cadence and the adiZero Avanti. I have worn a variety of spikes before and I can honestly say that these are as good as any. If you haven't picked out your spikes for the spring season, you should definitely give one of these a shot.
