Track and Field Blogs - Scott Bauhs
Almost there
Track is almost here and it is time to get serious. That means it is time for me to write a blog.
I just got back from a trip to visit my aunt and grandparents in Wisconsin. It was great to get some family time in before my schedule gets more hectic than it already is. Audrey (my fiancee) was on spring break so she was able to go along as well. It was the first time she had been to Wisconsin.
Now I'm back and starting to gear up for the season. Workouts are getting faster and I have a couple races on the horizon. I will be dawning the Adidas uniform for the first time at Carlsbad and I will follow that with a 1500 a week later up in Chico. I can't wait to get out there and race some people after hiding away in Mammoth for a while.
I am excited to open up on the roads. I have been fairly successful in the few road races I ran in college and I really like the atmosphere at them. There doesn't seem to be as much pressure since there are no times to hit (I'm sure the marathon is way different). I'm not trying to qualify for anything and I either have it or I don't.
The early season is going to be based around running a fast 5000 on the track at a meet yet to be decided. In that race the goal will be the A standard of 13:20 and to beat as many swooshes as possible. I've been running well in my tempos and am just starting to get some track work in towards meeting that goal. After that all sights will be on the USA Champs with a couple races in between.
Being pro has definitely narrowed my focus a bit. Last year in a 5 week period I ran world Cross and Pr.s in the Mile, 5k and 10k and then I was fried. I certainly don't regret my season last year as it made a Pro Career possible and I ran times that I previously thought were impossible... but now we have different goals. This means being careful not to over race which can be hard because as a competitor I love racing. I have been sitting here looking at results every weekend and training harder than ever and now I finally get rewarded with a few chances to shine.
Well now I have to get ready to go to the gym. I promise to keep my blog updated now that the track season is getting going.
Also if any of you have a chance to make it to my races make sure you track me down and introduce yourself.
