4 weeks in

Missing time running was a drag, but it really makes me appreciate being able to get outside and back to an activity I enjoy. I'm 4 weeks into being back running and I have to say it has gone better than I could have hoped. My mileage has steadily progressed and my body seems to be adapting quite well. It's always tricky coming back, not knowing if another aspect of your body will compensate for the prior injury. The only little ache I have is my IT band, but it is in-check and I am being cautious with it. It is probably a little sore from starting to run again and occasionally slogging through the snow.

Having the lay-off and now returning from it, I feel I have a renewed long-term perspective. For example, the other day I really wanted to keep running--I felt good and was enjoying myself, but knew my mileage was as high as it should be. I could have easily (and happily) threw on another 10 minutes, but had to consider: was 10 minutes really worth a potential problem? Suffice it to say, I halted the run. Sometimes stopping requires greater discipline than continuing and I trust it is something that I am going to get to practice the next few months.

I totally agree- coming off an injury, I'm so overeager to get my mileage up again, and all I want to do is run!

Seriously, going fewer miles is much harder than going more when coming off of an injury
