HMSA 25K - Downtown Houston - November 8
November 10, 2009
The weather reports had consistently been telling us that it was going to warm up just in time for the race Sunday. Only, they had been telling us it would be a low around 60 degrees – not the 68 degrees we ended up getting. Not to mention the 10-15 MPH southeasterly winds we were now getting. It was not going to be a good weather day for racing. Well … not for most of us who like to race these events. The recreational runner would probably prefer 68 degrees over 40 degrees.
In addition to concerns with the weather,… more »

Getting Back to Progress
November 9, 2009
A little more than than five months from now I plan to toe the line for my last high school race. Track has led me through both good and bad times. This year I want to really go out on top with some great races. This all starts with a training plan.
This is my tentative training plan:
November 12th, start running again. All easy runs, getting in approximately 40 a week.
December: Start to focus a little more on runs, still easy running. General strength and core 3 times a week. Work Mileage up by 10% a week. Hope… more »

Illness
November 9, 2009
It sucks...a lot. But I feel a lot better now after struggling for the past 2 weeks. NEVER fall behind on eating well and getting good sleep. It can easily allow illness to get into you.
The end of the season wasn't what I wanted at Cornell. I had been sick all day with a stomach virus or something, and it really set me back the last 2 weeks of training. After a weekend of lockdown and not doing anything but rest however, I feel a lot better and ready to go. more »

I Just Want to Blog
November 8, 2009
Greeting readers, thanks to minimal prodding by Allen "The Pleasure Machine" Trevino, I've decided to enter the blogosphere. As many of you know, I am no longer living in San Antonio- although Jordan is apparently unaware of this fact. Due to these circumstances, I'm in the unique position to blog from the perspective of an honest-to-goodness New Yorker.
That being said (and coupled with my desire to offer a newer, more exciting blog than Allen's), my format will be a bit more abstract. I'm going to present to you, gentle readers, my thoughts and musings on various on-goings from big… more »
Time to focus
November 8, 2009
Hey there, Hi there, Ho there
This weeks training suffered a little. Although I had great workouts monday and wensday, my mileage dropped a lot this weekend. I needed a weekend to just go out and have some fun. I recently broke up with my girlfriend and when we were dating I wouldn't go out causewe had a long distance relationship and I would spend my weekends up at her place. I am sad that we broke up but this gives me a real oppertunity to focus on this up coming indoor season. So that saying "A blessing in disguise"… more »

CCentral Region Vol. 4, Ed. 7 POSTSEASON EXTRA
November 8, 2009
Ah, the season wrap-up edition. And what a season it was. A pretty good season for Thomas Worthington. Didn't quite make it all the way, but Regional is a very good place to make it. They know what they have to do to improve next year. A lot of youngsters are coming back and it should setup a pretty good year.- Going back to Regional, I thought Cheyenne may just make it and she was pretty close. Twenty-first is great as a freshman and she has a very bright future. Tough 11th place finish as a team but next year… more »
New York City Marathon
November 8, 2009
My happiest day in my life! I passed the finish line in New York City Central Park after 3 hours and 20 minutes. My fastest run ever and what a fantastic race this is. Probably the best in the world! People are excited even on the plane over the pond and the BIG APPLE is just as incredible as ever! It seems its people are covering the 42 km race from the beginning to the crescendo in Central Park where we finish! A lifetime experience! more »

Yeah sorry for not blogging yesterday, but I wanted to get in the inevitable stories that would come from regionals!!! Finding the Fire
November 6, 2009
Every runner has experienced this before. Its a thing were you begin to doubt yourself and begin to wonder why you actually run. you allow you mind you wander and allow for your body to recongize doubt.
Just some background on myself, I am a senior in college right now and going into this year, I was wanted to make sure that I was prepared for cross country. I made sure I got up out of my bed during the summer to get all of my runs done. I decided that I would bump up my milage a bit to… more »
Factors Effecting Training
November 6, 2009
For the last five years, I have run for the University of Wisconsin. During my training, I studied Mechanical Engineering. The amount of time that went into that degree was staggering. Most nights I would sit in the Engineering Centers building until way past the time that I should have been in bed resting for my next run. Jerry Schumacher always used to say, “Good runners will always find a way to run fast. Even in conditions that don’t favor running and racing well.” To an extent, I do believe this. I ran 29:00 for 10k and was an All-American… more »

November 4, 2009
In case you do not know, which I don't know why you wouldn't because it is a common fact, triskaidekaphobia is the fear of the number 13. Phobias are so cool! Like hippopatomonstresquipedaliophobia is the fear of long word, I swear I didn't even look that up. Ahh! Upon looking it up it appears that first 'a' is actually an 'o', well I got close to spelling it right. First up--let me clarify who's writing this ultrablog because, for one day and one day only, Allen Raquelle Trevino will be taking a break. I'm Trey Gustafson, and I'll be the "guest blogger" for #12. And don't worry, Allen devotees, you'll still get your daily dose of puns, childhood media references, and funny stories. So without further ado, here goes!

Ok so Saratoga didn't go exactly as planned. I knew I was going to have a tough time with the course and well I did. Probably a bit of self prophecy there...oh well. Its over.

Region Meet
November 2, 2009
In the last couple of meets i had they were an average of 22 minutes; one was at Sharptop which wasn't my best race (23:00) because it was hilly and the other race was at the Carollton state course, which was pretty good (22:40), but was hilly also.
Then I had my Region meet. It was not an awful race but i didn't improve my time and the fact that Morgan beat me (again!) brought me down. I tried to work on splits while running, and got a time of 22:08, one second off my time last year! I was… more »
NYC 2009
November 2, 2009
Yesterday's race was quite an experience: it had ups, it had downs; but mostly, it was a huge helping of humility and a reminder of how unforgiving the marathon can be. I want to thank everyone for their encouragement and support, especially Janet and Brian Danza for providing gatorade and gel on the course and my family from Long Island for cheering me on the last mile (or was that stretch on Central Park South 10 miles?).The trip as a whole was a blast! The city was electrified with both the marathon and Halloween falling on the same weekend. Our… more »
Texas Heart Institute Great Pumpkin 5K - Downtown Houston - October 31

It was a near perfect weather for the annual Texas Heart Institute Great Pumpkin Run. I want to say 53 degrees with no wind, low humidity, and not a cloud in the sky. Once again I arrive early so that I can park at my usual free spot for the downtown races. This time, however, it is a good half mile from the start/finish – it is a good thing I have to do a warm-up.
I’m expecting Sean Wade and Adam Davis to be there to compete for the overall title. I also expected Joe Flores to give me… more »
