How Time Runs By

When you get to college, you hear pretty much the same thing from just about everybody who’s been there: “This is the time of your life.” “College is the place where you find yourself.” “Everybody switches their majors more than once.” “KEGGER!!!” etc. But one little warning I failed to heed was: “It’s going to go by quicker than you think.” Because honestly, to all you freshman and sophomore collegiates: it goes by ridiculously fast. You’ll see. I always thought I had that one more year left, that extra season left, to run those times, win those meets, add some… more »

The Big Three and How Their Successors Stack Up

In the wake of a new World Indoor Junior Mile Record this past weekend and with the anticipation of the National Junior Cross-Country Championships rapidly increasing, it seems that a group of teenagers are quickly asserting themselves as stars in the running world. The High School graduating class of 2008 had drawn many comparisons to the class of 2001 and "the Big Three." The Names Dathan Ritzenhein, Ryan Hall, and Alan Webb are now preceded by the phrases "American Record Holder" and "Olympian," so it is difficult to remember a time when they were simply "Big Bear Lake Senior" or… more »

i had a conversation with my strength coach yesterday during the inauguration. "what an amazing time to live in." unless you were born after 1990, you might remember a time when there was no internet, no AOL, no cell phones, etc. it was cool to think about how i can tell my kids where i was when barack was sworn in... training in a sweaty gym for the world championships in berlin. also, today we can log on to flotrack and follow whoever and whatever meet we wish... BF (before flotrack) you had to imagine what races must have looked… more »

4 weeks in

Missing time running was a drag, but it really makes me appreciate being able to get outside and back to an activity I enjoy. I'm 4 weeks into being back running and I have to say it has gone better than I could have hoped. My mileage has steadily progressed and my body seems to be adapting quite well. It's always tricky coming back, not knowing if another aspect of your body will compensate for the prior injury. The only little ache I have is my IT band, but it is in-check and I am being cautious with it. It… more »

Houston

I’m psyched to be leaving on Tuesday and heading to Houston. Nine of the men, and Des and I will be heading down south for the Houston half marathon. The field looks incredible and the weather should be great so get ready to see some fast times. After the amount of snow we have had this year I am ready to see some sunshine and have clear footing on our runs. I’ve looked ahead at the weather forecast for the upcoming week and it looks like a great week to be out of Michigan. We are leaving a few days… more »

Flagstaff, Center for High Altitude Training

Flagstaff is an amazing place to train. Despite most of the trails (and roads) being covered with snow the first week of our stay, I’ve been able to get in some amazing training. My first week here, which included Christmas day, my family was here with me. It was a nice little vacation for them, and it was great to be able to spend quality time with them between runs. After that, my good friend Bridget Duffy was my training partner for the next week. My average days have consisted of a run in the morning of 90-120 minutes, followed… more »

The Hansons are sending a large crew this weekend to run the USATF half marathon champs in Houston. We've had a lot of guys training well so hopefully we can put it together on race day. As ususal it's going to be a stacked field. I'm sure it's going to take a sub 64:00 to get in the top 10 assuming the weather will be good. It will feel good just to get somewhere warm and be able to race in shorts. My last three races have been the Twin Cities Marathon which was 40 and pouring rain, club cross… more »

Short and short

Just a couple of things to talk about so this will be short. 2008 was a great year for me. Lots of PR’s, made another world team, and wore a smile through it all - just an all-around great year. There’s nothing better than leaving frustrations behind, you know, when everything comes together. I feel like 2008 was that for me. Three years of training with the Hansons’ came full circle. On a personal note, sparing you lots of details, I can officially say that I will be a Mommy come spring. I couldn’t be happier. I’m looking forward to… more »

New Years Celebration

In the first minutes of 2009 I did something that I will never forget. I made a terrifying decision that I could not reverse. I proposed to my girlfriend Audrey Allas. Luckily she said yes and is now my fiancee. Both her family and mine were present to witness the event and she hasn’t taken off the ring since. Audrey and I have been dating for about 2 and half years now. We started dating with in a few weeks of her arrival in Chico and knew very early on that it was something special. She brings out the best… more »
