This past week was the 26th week of this year of 2008 we are living in. The half way point! Scary, think back to all those things you wanted to do this year, have you done half of them yet? Well get too it! But I digress, the reason for this is that it seems like a good time to assess how things are going and to tie it together and get a little perspective on all this running I do. First the races, why? Well that’s what all the running is for to race well so it’s the most… more »

half-way home... i'm sitting in my hotel lobby about to be picked up by my trainer to get some work done and big dinner... so i thought i'd post. just a couple things i have to say for now: eugene fans are amazing! they actually like decathletes! i feel great, better than i thought i'd feel. my overall day was good, but not one performance was out of this world so- there's more to hope for down the road. i just have to get a good night's sleep and be myself tomorrow and i'll have a shot to make the… more »

Where do I begin....I guess the fact that we actually have internet is a plus! ? So last night we spent the night in the Pearl outside of Bozo's Mechanic shop. ?Three of us in the van, lets just say my back did not feel great in the morning. ?Chase got up in the middle of the night and threw up for no reason. ?We woke up in the morning, left the Pearl with Juanito and went for a run. ?It was pretty awesome. ? We found a sweet dirt trail and went about an hour. ?Old man Floreani and… more »

Running Hurt

It really sucks trying to run through an injury, especially one thats not even that serious its just one that limits you from training and running at your full potential. I have been battling this groin/hip adductor issue for some time now and just recently has it really flared up. I would say it would started back around last November when I ran the Chiba Ekiden Relay but even then it was just a faint feeling in my leg and nothing really serious. I didn't really think anything of it especially when I ran PR's in both the Half Marathon… more »

A slight detour

June 23, 2008

So it looks like our little road trip has taken a detour, and we are not talking about Las Vegas. We are 20 miles outside of santa Rosa, NM waiting for a tow truck. It looks like we got some bad gas and the gas filter is clogged. Of course I have no idea what I'm talking about but that is my best guess. If anyone is near Santa Rosa or knows someone there that might be able to help us out, fix our car, feed us, or wants to go for run let us know. We have about 25… more »

There’s less than two weeks to go until the Olympic Trials (July 4th) and I have not been able to do one track workout that points to running a good 5000m. I had decent workouts when I started running again and I thought that they would get better, but the injury runs deeper than I anticipated. Having pinched my sciatic nerve over 10 weeks ago I still cannot recruit my left leg muscles properly. Specifically, my H reflex is quite slower on my left leg than my right leg and really affects my soleus. When I try to run fast… more »

Heading into the Trials

6/17/08: The long awaited first day of the Olympic Trials is only 10 days away and as I notice every commercial, Today show segment and magazine article about the Olympic Games, I get a nervous/excited knot in my gut. I can't decide whether I'd feel better if I could push the clock hands forward or wind them back. I can't wait to get on the track and make it happen, yet I sometimes find myself thinking I want time for one more 5 mile tempo, a few more 70's around the oval, or even one extra session of pumping iron… more »

New Challenges

June 12, 2008

Besides logging hundreds of miles of running over the past two weeks I have been watching previous Olympic Marathons while I stretch or while doing core work. What I have noticed is that the favorite rarely seems to win. I was reflecting on why this is the case. It kind of blows my mind that someone with a PR some two minutes or more slower than another athlete can win on the most important day of both athletes careers. While I am sure there is not just one explanation for why the "impossible" happens in Olympic marathons I am beginning… more »

went up to dallas this past weekend for the Texas Greatest Athlete Multi-events meet.? did 3 events my coach and i felt like we needed to work on: long jump, high jump, and 110 hurdles. the meet was set up to be a last chance olympic trials qualifier for some and others, like myself, could come and compete in a selected number of the events.? it was held at St. Mark's School of Texas, which is the most rediculous high school campus i've ever been to.? it was like a small college.? the facilities in most cases were nicer than… more »

Beijing Contest & the New New Flotrack

Ok so I am feeling a lot less stressed writing this blog than the last time I blogged. I do not write any of the code so I felt helpless to your complaints about the New Flotrack. Everybody made so many good points about problems in the new flotrack, but I could not do anything about it. It felt like I was in 5th grade again waiting for my mom to take me to my little league game. I know I told her that my game was at 5:45 pm, but I have no idea if she remembered, and there… more »

Sorry everyone for the lag in my blogs (to everyone that reads this anyways, Hi Mom!). I guess I've taken a little vacation from flotrack but its hardly a time to take a vacation from running. My last race was the NCAA DII Championships where I snuck away with a 5000 meter title. I've run 2 5k's this year (assuming you don't count the trial race at nationals) and neither of them have sat well with my stomach. Maybe I'm allergic to Mt. Sac or something but for whatever reason my insides just don't like me very much towards the… more »

Another day, more rain, and the humidity rises. It’s officially wet season here in MI. The trails are muddy and the mosquitoes are getting more annoying everyday. Running feels like a chore on these sticky days. I’m exhausted, thirsty and muddy at the end of nearly every run. But it’s the Midwest and by next week we’ll have a different “season”. Unfortunately we had to endure a track 10k during this wet season. All of us ladies ran at the Midwest Distance Solution in Hillsdale, MI. Luckily for us, they had cups of ice cold water every lap. There’s results… more »

If you have been paying attention to Flotrack the last couple of weeks you know we have been all over the country and very busy. There has been a lack of sleep but we have had a lot of fun. Two weeks ago we covered three meets all across the USA, Vernon and Lance were at D2 National Championships in Charlotte, The two Kevins(Kevin Danaher and Kevin Selby) were in Eugene covering the West Regionals and Paul and I were in Columbia covering the the NCAA Div 1 Mideast Regionals. Last week Vernon and I went out to New York… more »

The New Flotrack.... Bugs?

June 4, 2008

We have had a ton of feedback for the redesign and even though we wished everyone would love it and adapt to it right away we knew this was prob not going to happen bc we were kind of throwing it out there so people could tell us what they wanted and they could help us find the bugs. If we were Microsoft the site would not have gone up and it prob would not go live for another 6-12 months. I guess one or two of us have a lil ADD and we did not have the patince for… more »

As of 12:39 AM central time the New Flotrack went LIVE! We have been working on this for the last 7 months and we are so excited that we are finally done with it. It has taken longer then we originally thought but it is done now and we need your help to let us know what you like and don't like. So please play around with the site and if something does not work please tell us. We need to know so we can fix it. If you find something that does not quite work let us know by… more »

So believe it or not, I FINALLY MADE IT!!! I arrived in Austin this week and it was a pretty big relief. I had a blast out on the road for 36-ish days meeting a ton of great people, seeing some cool workouts, running on some great trails.....but now its time to get moving! I have a bunch of footage I want to finish up for you all so get excited. If I have time, I'd like to make a recap video of everything I've done on my trip so hopefully that'll be in the works soon. This week we'll… more »
