I'm back connected to the internet. Hooray! Heather and I left the hotel in Osaka at about 6am on the morning of the 28th. Between all of the time changes and the traveling it has somehow now become the 30th and I'm finally settled in Leuven, Belgium. I'll explain a bit of the journey. Heather and I took off from the hotel in a taxi and caught a flight on Korean Air to Seoul, South Korea. We had a layover there (2 hours I think?) and then flew to Paris, France. When we got in we went through customs and… more »

i would guess that a significant portion of the flocasts subscribers are now headed back to school in the coming weeks, if they haven't already. not to get nostalgic, but i am going to miss classes. well, maybe not classes, but definately the schedule/ regimen it throws you into. it's so easy to go from practice to class or class to practice once you're into your semester rythym. before you knew it, it was december and you were in great shape and finished with finals. i loved it. oh well, i'm sure i'll do just fine without research papers, cases… more »

Ok, so the last few days have been hard but I will be back tomorrow. I could not be in the press area again last night but that will all change becuase there are people out that believe what we are doing is good. I will try to get Bernard and Webb tomorrow and all the post race interviews you can handle. I recieved a ton of emails and Flotrackr messages of support and I cannot tell you how much that helps. Thanks so much and I will keep on keeping on.

Just have to say sorry that the coverage has been a little up and down, but I have been running into some road blocks here. I have been spending a lot of time trying to fix these problems and it has drained me mentally and physically. There are only so many times you can fight the good fight. I am going to have to find other ways to get you guys coverage. I hope everyone is doing well and I will talk to ya'll later.

Well the last time I wrote a blog was a couple days out from competition. I competed on the 25th and 26th. My competition did not go so well, I was disappointed with the outcome of my performance. I did alright in the first event the 100mH, but from there it kindof snowballed! While the competition was going on I could not understand why I was not competiting to the standard that I expected of my self, because I felt prepared. After the competition I learned more than I could have ever imagined. Me and my coach walked… more »

I have done my last workout. It went well. I have just been getting a lot of treatment for my body. Trying to make sure everything is good and ready. Since we are one of the last events, we have to wait around until it's time for us to run. It is cool on one hand because we are able to fix or work on any last little nicks, nacks, or injuries we may have, but it is a bit tough because we have to wait around while everyone else is in competition mode. The key is to not use… more »

So, I haven't written in a few days and I'm sure that makes me look like I'm pouting. I promise that's not the case. Yes, I'm disappointed that I didn't make the final... very disappointed. Not just because I didn't make it rather because I know I could have and maybe should have. I really didn't intend on coming to Osaka and walking away saying "Oh well, it was a good experience." I really wanted to contribute to the team and do as well as possible.

Now, the best way to do that is… more »

It has taken me a while to get caught up here in Osaka. The travel took a lot out of me and the heat drains you throughout the day. Sorry about that.

World Champs Race Recap Morning.

Mark From Flotrack | Profile
August 25, 2007

I will try to do a couple race recaps when I have time. So here is a recap of a couple of the races from this morning.
I just got back to the hotel from the morning section of day 1 and I have already learned so much. This is my first World Championships experience and I have not been to an Olympics yet, so this is the biggest comp I have ever been to. Like I said I have already learned a lot and I think Sully (Kevin Sullivan) sums it up in his interview when he said,… more »

So that's my new nickname, courtesy of Beaux Greer, did you pick up on the Andre 3000 reference? I didn't think so ... hahaha. Anyways, tomorrows the big day! I was getting pretty nervous today when Lindsey (Anderson) and I were looking at the start lists, but then when I was running today and doing drills and strides at the track I felt much more at ease. I realized that this is what I love to do, and I feel like I've been waiting forever to run this race. Enough already!!! I'm a woman of action and I can't wait… more »

8:40pm
It's the evening of the 24th here and that means there's just one night of sleep between me and the most prestigious race of my life so far. Not to worry though, the hard work has been done and because of that all I need to do is what I'm capable of in order to execute a respectable performance. You have to be one of the best to even make it this far and that fact alone gives me confidence going into this prelim.

Despite all of this though... I'm still nervous as anything.… more »

I have finally made it to Osaka!
I left at 12:50 AM on Thursday New York time and arrived in Seoul, Korea 13hrs later at 3:30 AM Seoul time and I had 6 hrs to kill in the Seoul airport until my flight to Osaka so I worked on the "Running School" Video. The Running School was a lot of fun, the campers were great, all 500 of them. After sleeping on a couple chairs in the airport I headed off to Osaka and landed at noon Osaka time and took a an hour bus into the city. I… more »

Worlds coverage starts tomorrow night and I have to say IÂ’m getting pretty excited for it. I filled in my fantasy team on IAAF.com and spent the $4.95 to get the WCSN.com coverage (thankfully Eliterunning.com put up a schedule of the distance events so I donÂ’t need to add the 13 hours for every event I want to watch). CBC will have TV coverage here in Canada on the weekends and Mark will surely have some good interviews here on Flotrack. Yes, it would be safe to say IÂ’m a big track fan, and, IÂ’ll admit, a bit of a… more »

Just got back to the Hotel after my track session. It went well but I did feel effects of the humidity.
8x400m @ 58.5 with 90 sec rec: 58.3, 57.3, 57.6, 58.3, 58.2, 58.2, 58.2, 57.2
The legs didnÂ’t feel bad, I just took a while to find rhythm. The two 57Â’s early on really pissed me off because I didnÂ’t want to go any faster than a 58, but its been a good while since I have done a track workout and my pacing was all off. I'm just ending my 21st birthday and everyone back at home is just beginning it :). I'm writing a little bit later today because I had a little chance to celebrate.

Starting from the beginning: I woke up this morning to run with Heather. It was the most industrial run I've ever been on in my life!!! I think it took us 25 minutes to run the first 12. We ran in downtown Osaka and it was madness. I only had to run 5 miles easy so I thought going to the track would be kind… more »

My easy day was a long run about 45 minutes easy. Then today I did a little tougher and faster workout. It was so hot when I did it. Ok so the debate here has been the heat. Kim Smith finds it funny that I feel this isnÂ’t as warm as we had it in Arkansas, and although I agree its really humid here I feel its far better running conditions. Today will be my test, 8x400m @ 58.5 with a 90sec recovery. ThatÂ’s not a tough workout but if the weather does affect me I should feel it creeping in during the recoveries. So I will get back to you about that one! I am really feeling good at the moment, all my runs have felt smooth and… more »

First, Track stuff. I got out to the track today (finally) to do a workout. It was about a thousand degrees and the sun was beating down like a hammer to an anvil. After I warmed up I ran 4x300 at race pace and then finished up with a few more at sub-racepace. It was a great pre-race sharpening exercise and I felt really good. I was able to keep my recovery very limited between intervals so that indicated to me that the heat wasn't getting to me much. When I finished I did some… more »

9:05 am
Yesterday morning I woke up early again for a really easy 6 miles. I swear it was a lot more comfortable weather but then some people think we're just getting used to it. I ended up exploring a little bit on my run and found myself in some really packed apartment-like neighborhoods. I was there around 7am so the streets between the houses were packed with young kids walking to school (I'm assuming). They all had identical Nike soccer bags, which was kind of intersting, instead of backpacks. They also were dressed to a t. All of… more »

We left Europe on August 9th and have been training here in Kobe, Japan for over a week now. The travel was great timing for me since I had a sub par race in Stockholm, Sweden on August 7. So, I'm having a fantastic time in Japan. So much so, that I have totally neglected this here blog.

Its great here, so clean and safe and I totally feel like a celebrity. When we go to the track for practice, there are about 100 seats that they allow little kids to watch and take pictures while we practice. I woke up earlier this morning to run in hopes that I might beat the heat a little. No such luck. I got on the path by about 7am and I think it was already in the high 80s. I ran 6.5 miles doing my usual 10 min. out, 10 back, water stop and then back out again. It seems kind of silly but it's worth it to get the much needed water breaks. 6.5 miles, strides, cool. Totaled about 7.5 to 8 for the morning.

Usually I do a lot of speed stuff, and I have done some but mostly rhythm, relax, strength stuff just to stay fresh and strong. After being intially sent into the "athletes village" (4 hotels in a 2 mile radius in downtown Osaka), I quickly found out that I was the only athlete in sight. The IAAF didn`t officially arrive until the 20th, so access to training facilities was going to be difficult.

I spent the first day trying to scope out the city for good running areas, food, massage and bottled water. Rumors about the humidity in Osaka were spot on. All the Japanese woman had unbrellas for shade, and the Men all fanned themselves with rolloed magazines. Few Locals… more »
