Hello again! I’m back in Pullman Washington to start my training for the ’08 season. I had about a month off, and that could have been the fastest month ever!! I spent time with my family and spent a little time shopping…well a lot of time. Today a 3:00 I start my first workout for the season and it is about a 4 mile run up many hills (that I consider mountains) on the WSU campus. Right now I will just be doing base training like repeat hill work outs, bleachers, and distance runs. I will also be lifting and… more »

Well, it's been a while since my last post. I cut my post Osaka European tour short because I was tired of dealing with the injuries, which made me tired of racing. I have been home for a while and enjoying my time off. Now, I am focusing all of my energy on my YOUTH TRACK AND RUNNING CLUB. Please feel free to go by the blog and check it out. It is for the kids and the kids help me realize how lucky I have it.

I guess I will start my first blog with a little "What I did on my summer vacation" recap. This was not a great summer for me on the running front. I had some injury problems at the end of the spring, and unfortunately I didn't run as well as I wanted to based on the kind of shape I was in. It was extremely disappointing, but I am hoping to use that disappointment to really motivate me this year. I did get to compete for the USA at the Pan Am Games in Brazil, though. I consider it a… more »

Well hello flotrack people. This is great. I just want to thank Mark and Madhu for coming down, doing the video and setting this up. I've never been more exited for a year of running and the more involved I can get the better.
I've spent most of my running career injured. Last year was my break through, we finally found a way to stay healthy. I only run about 4 or 5 days a week and spend the rest cross-training. Not particularly enjoyable, but it works. I kind of think of this past year as my… more »

Hee hee hee, I did it! I successfully conned Mark into letting me blog!! He thinks he asked me to do it, but really it was total play on words. Anyway, here's what's been goin' on with me!
First off, the World Championships were awesome! I absolutely loved being there! I had so much fun and it was a blast to room with Anna, she's great! And yes, Josh and I took a fire extinguisher with us to church when Anna joined us. After Worlds I took 2 weeks off and now I'm getting back into it again.… more »

Hopefully Shooter McGavin's not there getting it on with your Grandma, your girlfriend, and a midget.

So this should be my second blog post, but I made the mistake of trying to upload a picture with the first one. I clicked 'post blog entry' and was greeted with a screen filled with internet gibberish. Translation: "The internet has deemed your blog not worthy of posting and has destroyed any remnant of it. Thank you, come again."

Now, why did this happen? Maybe Flotrack has a profanity filter- I didn't think dropping a few (37… more »

September 19, 2007

I just finished up my first year here at ZAP, and now with the addition of Jon Pierce, I am no longer the "newbie". I would be lying if I said I was happy about the way my first year went from a competitive standpoint. However, Pete and I have learned from some of my shortcomings in races, and I am really excited about this upcoming Olympic year. My situation here at ZAP is all I could ever ask for as a distance runner trying to make it after college, and I am grateful to so many people for helping… more »

i get it... i need to be more attentive to where i place my feet!! monday afternoon, after my warm-up laps, i lost my footing where the grass meets the south apron at mike a. myers stadium. my foot rolled over and i sustained a mild ankle sprain, again! >:(

this is a far too common occurence for me. and as i lay on the track waiting for the training staff and andra manson to come to my rescue, i thought about why this always happens to me and what i'm doing to bring this upon myself.… more »

Time may Change me, but I can’t trace time

September 18, 2007

That’s the end of my 2007 track season. In both of my last two races I came up short of my time goals but, when I look back on the season as a whole I can say that I’m happy with how it went. The highlights for were my three PB’s (3:40.38, 13:21.53 and 27:56.92), and winning the Canadian 5000m title for a fourth time in a row. I was also very pleased with how my last month of training went. I definitely got to a new level of fitness in my workouts. Before if I was to run 5… more »

you know how once in a while a song comes along, you just hit the repeat button, try your darndest to learn the words; you just can't get enough of it, every run you go on, you seem to repeat the same bars of the song over and over. well... yeah, someone finally brought back some daft punk and i feel like i'm into it waaaaayyy too much. yesterday, taking the weekend off from ACL, i sat on my couch, watched football, and learned the song on the guitar. doesn't sound bad on acoustic, but with a little distortion... nice.… more »

Official T winners

September 15, 2007

So I could not make everyone happy and I have had a ton of emails asking about the Ts and the rules and all that jazz. I had to make some hard decisions and there were many sleepless nights but we have our official winners for the Ts. It took us a while to filter through all the posts. Some people said they were from Alaska but we should just send the T to their summer house in Texas. Anyway in the end Madhu aka Madhuski complied the list and here it is.

My first official blog post, live from Berlin!

I gotta apologize to my boy Mark for taking so long to get this first post up. He's had me ready to go on here since Osaka, and due to a bit of procrastinating on my part, and some sketchy internet spots in Italy it's taken me almost a month to get my first post up.

The season is slowly winding to an end. Some athlete are shutting down for the season, others are planning out there vacations, and looking forward to some downtime. Me...well,… more »

tried to solo at 10 000m tonight. I split 13:53 for 5000m, right on pace. Then I threw in a bunch of 69’s and completely ruined all chances of A standard, 27:47. I got lapped by K. Bekele and then latched on to him for a couple laps, man it felt good. I’m confident if I had people to run with a 27:45 would of been possible. I had some of my best workouts ever in teh past month so I decided I had to make a run at A standard for 2008. Well, back to the drawing board and… more »

Catching up

September 14, 2007

I'm not really catching up as much as the whole trip and season is starting to catch up to me. I lifted in the weight room for the first time this Tuesday in probably 3 months. I found myself in a world of pain. You know it's bad when you go hands-first to ease yourself into a chair. I'm still putting in good milage on the running front but it's nothing like the milage on the school front. I'm just going to face it, I'm so far behind. I've got all kinds of reading to catch up with. Only a… more »

We have been working hard here at HQ in Austin, Tx and we finally have gotten a News page up for you guys. For most of you this will be a new experience for some people because the News Page is run by you the community. There is not one or two people who decide what is news worthy, but the whole community decides.

Heres how it works.

Some of the News is added by the Contributers but most of them are added by the community. When you go to the "News Page"… more »

We will have a couple other teams doing the same thing and I encourage anyone and everyone to pick up a camera and show how life on your team is like. If you are red shirting, a team manager, a runner who is good with a camera, or just like to video contact us if you want to have your shows on Flotrack. We think… more »

Welcome Home

Jenny Barringer | Profile
September 12, 2007

When I walked up to my door late Sunday night there was a "Welcome Home" poster up on the door and the three greatest roommates in the world (which happen to be mine) were up waiting to welcome me back to Boulder. I woke up the next morning (as you read in the last post) pretty early and started getting things done. I have since then met all of my professors (finally) and am, like a mad woman, trying to catch up with school work. I did a chunk while I was away, but I still missed a lot.

Around the world in 24 days

Jenny Barringer | Profile
September 10, 2007

Wow, it's just before 8am in Boulder, Colorado and I just finished getting the last load of laundry into the washer. My bag is unpacked and back in the basement closet with numerous tags heralding its journey still clinging to the straps. Twenty-four days, twenty-five thousand miles, and all of the unpacking took a mere hour and twenty-five minutes.

Running really did take me around the world this time. My trip began on a "short" flight from Denver to San Francisco followed by the flight to Japan. A layover in South Korea served as intermission between… more »

DecaNation

September 9, 2007

I have only a few minutes to write so I'll fill in more details later...

I raced yesterday in the DecaNation and won my very first international event in a USA jersey. I set a pr of 9:33 chasing down the French woman in her own stadium the last 100 meters. It was an exciting finish. I couldn't have imagined a better outcome to this long and crazy trip. I can't wait to get home and let everyone in on the rest of the stories

Now I'm off to a long run. I'm going… more »

It's up to the community

Mark From Flotrack | Profile
September 7, 2007

So Zap Fitness in Boone, NC was a ton of fun and I should get a video up of the whole experience sometime next week I hope. Today Madhu and I filmed an Ohio State workout so I hope to get that up as well.
Now on to business of the T=shirts. We wanted to say thanks for all the community has done for us, so we are giving away some Black Shirts. We don't like to many rules here at the HQ (Flocasts World Headquarters), but we did not want people to abuse the system and get a… more »

part 2

September 7, 2007

In the past week or so that I've been here I've done some tourism. It has all been a lot of fun and I won't spend a lot of time explaining it all but I'll tell you what I've seen. Heather and I went to the tower of course and stood in line for too long to pay too much to see too little. We were there in the middle of the day when I was concerned about getting back in time to run. So, while the tower can be very enchanting and romantic I think we might have squashed… more »

Bonjour!

I know I've been missing in action the past few days with action being the key word. Things haven't slowed down but internet has been a little more challenging here and therefore, no blogs :(. So, I apologize to those of you that keep e-mailing me wanting me to write again I assure you, je pense de vous tous le temps!

I took French for four years in high school and continued for a few semesters in college. That has made this experience in France much easier at times than my travels in… more »

Interns and T-Shirts

Mark From Flotrack | Profile
September 6, 2007

We have had a ton of requests for T-Shirts and interest in out internship positions. On the T-shirt front we said first person from every USA state. I am traveling right now, no surprise, to Zap fitness in Boone NC so if anyone is up for going through the comments and letting me know who was first from each state. If you did not get a shirt and do this for me I will send you out a shirt for your help.
On to interns...
We have had a lot of interest and when I get back… more »

We have a Winner!

I left Osaka early Monday morning(Osaka time) and I'm pretty tired. I did not get much sleep last night because after the races there was an after party for all the athletes, staff and I guess Spanish team managers. Anyway the party was a lot of fun with a lot of bad dancing but as I have some time to kill in the Seoul airport I was curious as to see how accurate the predictions were for the "Win Nick Willis gear contest.
It turns out we were pretty good at guessing the women's 1500 time with the… more »

Worlds have come and gone and the highlight for me was Gary Reed's silver in the 800m today. Not only is the silver a great accomplishment for Gary but, it was a very exciting race that came down to one one-hundredth of a second!

The Canadian team took home two medals (one more than 2005); Perdita's silver in the 100m hurdles was the first one, (plus a gold in the women's demonstration 1500m wheelchair). So you can see why a medal is a big deal for us Canadians and especially one that didn't come from the… more »

Pre-Race experience

Jenny Barringer | Profile
September 1, 2007

I wanted to take the chance to explain a little bit about racing at the World Championships. I feel like I could write a novel about the experience of one race morning at a meet of this level. I know some of my posts are already pretty long but this one might take the cake.

The hotel that we stayed at this championship was very close to the competition track but Osaka is a very congested industrial city, so despite the actual distance (which, I believe was about 4 miles as a crow flies) it took our… more »

September 1, 2007

Yesterday was a fun day. Heather and I both got up early to find the track and do my workout. Mark had decided to do something a little different and let me decide what my workout would be. I had to run it by him, of course, but it was a lot of fun having to be in charge of my own training for a day. He gave me the goal of the workout and then let my imagination take over ?. I decided on 5x600 at race pace over barriers with 200m recovery. Then, 2x300 sub race pace over… more »

LET IT BURN

September 1, 2007

Well, I had my first round a couple of days ago. It did not go as well as I hoped but I made it through the first round into the semis with a 1:45. I felt alright before the race, but it really does not matter how you feel. After the race, I felt terrible but I thought it was due to dehydration and or just getting back into running mode. I cooled down and started my recovery process, feeling confident that I would feel much better. So the next day I felt that I should continue to do what… more »
