An Introduction

So 2007 is winding down and even though i've been at ZAP for over three months now i'm finally getting around to writing my first blog. Quickly a few words of introduction: I grew up in upstate NY running for Canton Central High School and attended Stanford University, graduating last spring with a degree in Human Biology. I'm primarily a steepler but will look to move up in distance over the next few years, possibly to the marathon. I spent most of my fifth year last year injured with several serious foot problems but in '06 ran pr's of 28:54,… more »

Hello Again

It’s been three something weeks since my last blog and I have been doing very well. So far I have filmed about 5 hours of footage (40 more to go) and found two of my three characters. For any of those techies out there, I am filming with a Canon HV20 in mostly 24p with a little 60i for slow-motion shots. I will add some pictures into this blog and also onto my personal gallery. These pictures are taken directly from movie footage so you can use your imagination. Sadly I can't upload any movie… more »

Women Can Run Together

This fall has been an exhilarating ride. Every race has been exciting, and has given me the opportunity to improve and be stronger as a runner. I had a base from the spring and summer that helped carry me through the fall, enabling me to set a qualifying standard in the 10k. I also had a few other great races this fall, making me hungrier for more. I want to keep the energy going, and make another Trials qualifying mark in the 5k, as well as improving upon my previous 10k mark. I have many goals in 2008. The more… more »

Merry Christmas in about a week! It's been a great winter so far, pretty cold, but good! It does make running a little more challenging but the training has been going well and I do enjoy the season changes we get to experience in Utah. Anyway, my Father-in-Law used to write short stories for a local newspaper in my hometown. He ran for many years of his life and still holds some of the course records for his age-group in some of the road races around Utah. I wanted to share one of his many short stories with you. I… more »

Hello FloWorld, and thanks to Mark for asking me to Blog.
I want to tell everyone a little about the training group we have here at Indiana University. A lot has changed here in the past year but things are really going well. Coach Chapman is still coaching me and 7 other guys training here in Bloomington. Our group is called Team Indiana Elite and you can take a look at our website at www.teamindianaelite.com.
Last year was a pretty short year for me. I took 16 weeks off with a torn plantar at the beginning… more »

We can say the SH@T hit the fan. With all the names and people named in Major League Baseball this is a tough time for certain sports. Just remember, There is no crying in baseball. Yet, it must be known that the vast majority of athletes in all sports are clean. It was said that this is a bad day for sports and baseball, but I beg to differ. This is a bad day for the guys who were cheating and got caught. It's a bad day for the guys who have been cheating and did not get caught because… more »

Club Cross Country

The Club Cross Country Championships is the culmination of our fall racing season. Last year was the first time we had run as a scoring team, and we won the championship. This year our goal coming in was to defend the title.

We knew we would have to run well in order to win again this year, as there were some good teams entered. We showed up to the course the day before and it was covered in slushly snow, and as I figured, by 1:30 on race day with 4 races under its belt, the course… more »

Not So Silent Night

On Friday I took the girlfriend to Not So Silent Night in San Francisco (A yearly concert put on by the radio station 'Live 105'). My favorite performers were Spoon and Modest Mouse but the highlight of the night was seeing Audrey's face light up during when she saw Jimmy Eat world take the stage for the first time. The other performers: Paramore and Angels and Airwaves were entertaining but I can't believe that Paramore was nominated for a Grammy. My ears are still ringing. Soon I am either going to have to either stop going to these things or… more »

Its 8:00, December 1st, and our sports psychologist is teaching me how to make a delicious holiday chicken soup. The stove is topped with 5 or more boiling and spitting pans. I’m cursing a burnt hand and pouring rum and eggnog for my brother and his friends. Thomas Morgan is measuring out the ingredients for Allie’s birthday cake (also today). It’s our annual Christmas party; a sign we’re about to conclude the fall racing season and head to our respective homes for a good month and a half. We’ll meet again on January 15th in Tallahassee Florida for a 6-week… more »

December 3, 2007

Hi Everyone,

My name is Francis Coral - Mellon and I am currently in the process of making a running documentary in Iten, Kenya, the Mecca of Kenyan distance running. I have decided to write a series of blogs during my time here to let people know what I am doing. I am making a film about what it takes to become a champion. I will be filming across three age ranges and characters. Starting with a young boy who has the dream to follow in the footsteps of those who have gone before, documenting his training… more »

Yes, it's me again. But I just had to share this clip with y'all from the Senior Men's race yesterday that my friend caught on video.

I barely pulled off the win yesterday at the AGSI National XC Champs in Guelph over teammate Eric Gillis. I seriously thought I was going to finish second when Gillis and I got to the bottom of the hill with 200m to go. He has been stronger on the hills this fall than myself but I decided I wasn’t going out without a fight. So I pushed… more »
