Why not have live coverage of the opening ceremony? How much money could NBC possibly make off infomercials that early in the morning any way? If they're concerned about the thing being leaked on the net, then I'm sad to say that its going to be done already by the VAST MAJORITY of the world which gets to see it well before we in the United States do. How sad...
I saw the RG video yesterday and was very impressed. For many reasons, but solely because they did an outstanding job. Very proud of the local paper here. Their pre-trials coverage has been impeccable.
I clicked on the link above to watch the races on nbcolympics.com. Tried to click on one of the videos and a window came up telling me that the player does not yet support Mac OS!!! NBC never ceases to amaze me with their short sighted, sub-par coverage!

Early On June 9, 2008 at 1:25am
I was in the 'blog room' this morning when it was filled watching splits and talking about the 10k and 5k attempts. I read on a few other boards the internet wasn't even up at the field until right before 1pm. to get that live 10k 5k coverage, even if on a blog, was very enjoyable -- and somehow with the internet situation you guys were up. what more to say? you provided a service to the meet both Nbc, espn, etc. couldn't provide. keep doing what you do and thanks for following through

I was excited to watch the pre on nbc because I had heard bekele was going to make an attempt at the 10k world record on american soil. I knew they were going to feature the sprints because thats all they ever do on network tv but I thought they would at least show a clip of him winning or something. there was no coverage of the 10k at all on nbc. You woudn't even have known it happened if you watched. Abdi ran 3 seconds off the american record. I looked it up on espn.com afterwards because I wanted ted to know what happened in the 10k and their headlines were that liu xang dqed and bekele ran the 4th fastest 10k of all time. that's espn that never even covers track unless someone sets a world record. its a disgrace. we had the greatest athlete in the world competing at the top of his form on american soil and nbc didn't even mention he ran. its inexplicable. I don't get it.

I'm with you, "pissed off" and "matt" Who wants to see precious air time coverage of a million false starts when this is a huge year for distance runners on the olympic hunt for a medal. Not much respect for prefontaine when they dont even show or talk about a world record attempt at 10k!
Matt June 8, 2008 at 8:04pm
NBC is a waste of time. Spent more time covering 3 million false starts on the sprint side then actully covering the distance races. 2 World record attempts on American Soil and not even a mention of either race.
Yeah June 8, 2008 at 7:28pm

just horrible. i got to watch baseball from 3-4:30 before getting the last half hour of the pre clic. flotrack really needs permission to broadcast this stuff? can't we organize or sign a petition or something?
I suggest you check out, and maybe link to the video put together by the Eugene Register-Guard newspaper: http://rgweb.registerguard.com/video/index.php?bcpid=1569924850&bclid=1390871863&bctid=1595638696
I'm so impressed that you provide links to NBC's page on this meet!
Thanks!
Please fix the layout. It's all over the place. It used to be real structured where you could find what you're looking for.
