I don't think Doug or Don or anyone else was just sitting on their hands in this matter. My guess is they carefully measured both courses, probably several times, and couldn't find enough diference to justify going the two list route.

The Mt.Sac course they use now (2.91 miles), has been in use since 1999. This current course replaced the "traditional course", that was used from 1977 to 1998. Meet director Doug Todd has confirmed in three saparate interviews that the traditional course had indeed been altered over the last few years, once also stating that it had been shortened. As of 2008, the Mt.Sac staff mix the times from the traditional course with the new course, eventhough the new course is said to be 18 seconds faster than the old course. When Todd was asked about this in 2001, he said he woud "go back over the results and create two all-time lists: one for the old course and one for the altered course". As of 2008, they still combine the times from the two different courses. http://prep.caltrack.com/2001crosscountrynotes/011020MtSACAlteredCourseRG.htm
