Congrats to German, and thanks for the great video and commentary. It is great to see history made. What most of you do not get to see is that he is a great guy. I met him as a substitute teacher, and found him to be friendly, humble, and interesting - kind of rare these days. I hope we see more great things from him in the future - Go German!
WOW!!! Great job German! What a fantastic race to watch! Colby and Luke, amazing races too! Way to go everyone! Great commentating flotrack!

what makes this even crazier is that he ran 8:34.40 in a high school only race, i believe when nelson set the record of 8:36 he ran against professional at some Pepsi meet. Nonetheless, incredible race and who knows maybe he'll win a national championship as a freshman at Oklahoma State; with the amount of talent this man has, the sky is the limit for this outstanding individual. C. Derrick will still always be number one in my heart

Fout ran 8:55 a year ago. If healthy he could have been faster. Good luck to him and Chris Derrick on the start of their college careers.
Congrats to Fernandez! Awesome time!

While the Kenyan's have run faster at the same age (albeit their ages are disputable) there is a reason this record stood for 29 years. This kid looks like Salazar running. Runs smooth, but looks like he's about to sit down in a big comfy chair. Awesome performance. And sorry, the announcing was second rate, although I don't announce for a living so it is what it is.

without a doubt

Chris Derrick would have won this in 8:30

i'm sorry to break ur heart man but the Kenyans and Ethiopians are at another level of distance. their top guys are about 30- 40 secs in 5k and about a min ahead of us in the 10k. Kenyans and Ethiopians have guys at German's age that run faster ex. kipchoge. Look at Bekele and haile!! when they were young they ran fast times. haile once ran a 10k in 28:03 at the age of 18!! however dont get me wrong german will be a great USA runner one day. he will indeed have a great career in the future and has a chance of being one of the best distance runners the us will ever have.
That was just sick. Great job annoucing Mark. And congrats to Colby. He is the fastest Texas kid ever.

I hope German has success in the future, but what did Jeff Nelson ever do after his hs record? He certainly never ran a great 5k. Unfortunately hs success does not guarantee future success.
Congrats to Fernandez! Awesome time!
