Just an addition to whats been said...
Not all the athletes in Leuven are with Flynn. There is about half that are with Mark Block/Chris Layne (Total Sports Management). Here's the website...http://www.totalsportsus.com/athletes.html. So there is a handful of those guys like Stephen Pifer, Billy Nelson, Scott Overall, Nicole Teter, etc.... There are some people in Leuven that have no representation and are here on their own will and $. Then there are others staying in Leuven that aren't staying at the dorms but other places around town. So its a mix of athletes with different agents and those with no agents. There are buses set up for everyone to ride down to these meets. And heads up, Heusden Meet is tonight!! Thats where everyone ran fast last year so watch out!!!

Hey, thanks for the info. Andrew. I've become a huge fan of this website and I've always wondered how Mark Flo and the guys seem to have a huge family of top athletes that are "good friends of Flotrack". They apparently developed quite a relationship with the Flynn athletes and I love it. Flotrack is less than two years old but already has such great(and large) community of athletes who have become pals with Mark and Ryan. Their connections have become almost endless in the track & field world. I love it. Thanks again for the info. Andrew.

I think all the Athletes that are in leuven are Ray Flynn runners. Kimbia keeps there guys around london. Peter Stubbs (Ritz, Flanagan, Goucher) keeps his runners in Germany, i think. Matt taylor talked about it a few months back in Running Times. Here is a list of Flynns athletes, most of them are Flotrack regulars: http://www.flynnsports.com/athlete-profiles.php

Thanks Kara. I think this is all so cool. Although you may tell me it's not as sweet of a deal as it may seem, I wish I were living that life! It would kind of land in the "living a dream" category for me. Who organizes things in a way that many of the athletes are living in the same places and near eachother?

All of the athletes who are in Belgium are racing at one point or another. The ones who didn't race in Liege either just raced somewhere else or are racing somewhere soon after. I had just arrived the day of the meet, which is why I didn't race- along with the fact that Liege isn't easy to get in to. Some meets are difficult for athletes to enter, others aren't. The meeting in Brachaat (on the 23rd) is less competitive, thus easier to enter. There are a couple meets this weekend. A couple handfuls of US athletes are racing in Barcelona, while other's are racing at the KBC Meeting in Huesden on Sunday.

Ryan or anyone else who knows- So these athletes that are all hanging out and training in Belgium, they're just doing it to try to get used to the European track experience? I mean the ones who aren't actually racing in a meet. Are all of these athletes under Flynn management? I'm new to the whole concept but it's definately cool. Thanks for the vids.

not that i know of, a lot of these athletes have to pay their own way out here (travel, food, dorms, etc...). obviously those athletes with bigger contracts will pay less out of pocket, but still have to pay for some of their own stuff

Does USATF organize stuff in Europe (dorms in Leuven, buses, etc)?

And Honey Claws makes sick beats.

Suggestions For Ryan   July 18, 2008 at 10:19am
Hey, Ryan, I only wish I could be there doing this same trip...we all do. A few suggestions to improve the viewing:
1. put names of athletes on the screen - for example when they're filing off the bus there are a lot of folks we dont all recognize...get names like you're the yearbook nerd. I know it's work, but we'd love it.
2. Talk to the sprinters and jumpers on the bus (and at the meets). Look, I know they're weird and all (I'm a distance runner, too), but they won't bite. You'll get some interesting stories and insight into the other 75% of what's happening at a track meet.
