Beijing 080808 Video Contest

The Beijing Games are the most anticipated Olympics in a generation. The once closed country of China has invested billions of dollars to throw the biggest and best coming out party the world has ever seen. TrackandFieldtours.com and Flotrack are teaming up to get you and a friend to the Olympics. TrackandFieldtours.com is the best way to catch all the track action in Beijing. It's so good that a lot of their clients are the athletes' family and friends. Track and Field Tours owners, Adam and Jessica Dailey were both Footlocker finalists and ran at the University of Arkansas who, like us at Flotrack, saw a need in our sport and decided to do something about it. The best uploaded video will win a track fans dream vacation, a trip for two to the 08 games with tickets to the track events. For more info about the wining prize and about the community's own Adam and Jessica Dailey click Track and Field Tours.

Win a trip to the 2008 Games in Beijing, China! Get your videos ready because the best uploaded video wins a pair of flights, hotel accommodations and tickets to the track competitions at the 08 Beijing Games. Carlsbad 5000 Elite Men
Elite men's 5k race in Carlsbad Ca, featuring Allen Webb, Steve Slattery, Josphat Boit, Mo Farah... I just want to applogize in advace for the shoddy camera work and announcing. The truck from which I was filming was not the smoothest ride but I hope you all are still able to enjoy it.

Webb is amazing.. I garuntee that everyone on here tripped balls and got chills when you watched him run that mile this past summer, so don't talk crap. He is 24 years old he has a lot left in him. Go ALAN!!

Thanks   April 7, 2008 at 11:20am
Thanks for the video man, I was really hoping that someone would be out there with a camera. Oh well that it is shaky, better than nothing and I know stabelizers for a camera aren't easy to come by.

clearly webb was struggling with the pace. he needs to learn how to be a man and finish a race.

alan could have run sub 13 minutes. he's pretending to struggle so that it will make him look that much better when he blows away the competition on the track

Bryon Lamorandier   April 7, 2008 at 12:25pm
Yeah, it just didn't seem like it was his day. It would be nice to see him finish up the race though and not drop out if it wasn't something serious. I expect he'll come out and blow us all away with some more amazing performances on the track. Oh and Brit, you are right about the 13:09 by Farah, sorry about that. Bad research.

Thanks Bryon: Nice to have any sort of coverage, plus the stuff towards the end was pretty smooth.
You even caught Alan's breaking point at the last turnaround...you could see that he just did not re-accelerate and dropped right off the pack.
Alan is a talent but I think he'll always be a bit of a crap shoot in each race. I wish for him things weren't always such a big struggle but they likely always will be after the precedent of punting on college when it wasn't a cake walk. A shame in a way but it will certainly keep things interesting in a blood sport sort of way...not a coincidence given that going for the $$ early is what put him in this situation.

Allan   April 7, 2008 at 7:33pm
Simply put, this man is a professional. Who has incidentally called himself a 1500/5000 specialist. He could not even finish a 3.1 mile race. All he did was, oh no there is another American in front of me I will pretend I am sick. just like at the 8k in Central Park. Realized that there are a lot better people out there at longer distances and crapped his pants. The man is talented, but he has to remember there are other American professionals out there that will wipe the floor with him anything over and including 5k.
reply
Akfhkldsfjlakf   April 7, 2008 at 7:43pm
lets not forget that the man ran a 27:34 and beat Ritz in his debut 10k. the man is talented, but im sure hes not training for the 5k or 8k. so i honestly didnt think that the american record would be broken yesterday.

im not going to make excuses for him though. im a little disappointed in his last 2 performances. but im not going to sit here and call him a bad runner and bash him because of it. i mean hes had the performances to prove that he deserves to be where hes at.

and hes not doing bad just because he left college early.

i just hope the man can get things together for the trials and hopefully beijing!

Brian>>thanks for the video footage; being stuck in Iraq makes it hard to keep up with distance running/track. Great race; just sorry to see Webb drop out; wish he had jogged, walked or crawled to the the line to show younger runners what our sport is all about.
reply
Bryon   April 8, 2008 at 10:56am
No problem Russ. Glad you were able to enjoy it, even if it was from the discomforts of Iraq. That is the good thing about Ftrack, is that it allows you to keep up with the haps in running no matter where you are. Good luck man. Stay safe.

Bad Role Model   April 8, 2008 at 6:04pm
he (webb) disgusts me. that man has dropped out of more races than any professional runner i know. he gives american runners a bad name by dropping out of college for money and then when he gets the money he tends to drop out of every other race. yeah so he ran an american record, i'd hope so when you get paid to run and train. pathetic

Uh Webb Owns   April 8, 2008 at 9:37pm
uh Webb is US distance running right now... he owns every event from the 800 to the 10k, we've seen him beat the best American talent in every race inbetween... don't hate he's the only chance we have internationaly.. and don't reply to me with talk of Hall or Ritz or better yet Symmonds none of those guys have even made a world championship final. period. Webb is our answer to African dominance no one else has the talent to be elite among elites on the world scene.
reply

Really...   April 8, 2008 at 9:46pm
All you guys can go and hate on him for having a couple rough road races in March and April, but in the grand scheme of things, he'll be tehre come trials and he'll be there in the Olympics finals, its a long ways from the Olympics and your kidding yourself ifyou think a poor 5km on the road means he wont run well on the track.
reply
Please   April 8, 2008 at 10:25pm
If we could get an Alan Webb work out video or video series of his training week, I think flotrack would implode from the greatness, and the number of people watching intently. please?

As awesome as an Alan Webb workout vid would be, I can guarentee you that the Coach Scott and Alan Webb camp wont go sharing any of their playbook. Case in point - his brother uploaded that TT 1000m vid and that lasted a whole 12 hours.

Look at it this way. Alan ran incredible races all last year and then come the 1500m finals at the WC he messed up.
So...
If he messes up all these races before the 1500m finals at the Olympics... HE'LL RUN INCREDIBLY THERE
haha. not saying that'll happen, but it's funny to think that.

Bryon   April 12, 2008 at 8:12pm
ryan_x, sorry that my filming technique doesn't reach your standards of excellence in cinematography. The race was filmed from the back of a pickup truck filled with reporters, camera men, and many other individuals packed like livestock down a bumpy road. So needless to say it was rather difficult to keep the HAND HELD camera steady. Like many others on here who complain about the content of the videos, maybe you should just be happy that it even exist. Or if you have such superior filming skills why don't you produce something?
reply
Sam Fletcher   April 12, 2008 at 11:10pm
hey.. dont worry abt these people making comments.. u got on that truck and filmed the race for everyone to see and i think thats the most important thing. ryan_x seriously go watch it elsewhere if u cant stand it.

Alan's Biggest Fan & Critic   April 22, 2008 at 2:55pm
Let me just say what we're all thinking & know to be true: Alan is physically fit & gifted, but mentally he's a basket case. Raszko (sp?) is helping him here. What is he, a high-school coach who wants to be on the world stage? Alan needs his kicked by his coach. Put Webb in a stadium with 100,000 fans and the expectation to win, and he'll collapse like a house of cards. Put him on an empty South Lakes HS track this weekend and he'll run 3:53 into a 10 MPH wind. He has the wheels but not the head. He's weak mentally. And anyone who's competed seriously (I was never able to break 14m/5K so I don't proclaim to have experience at the world-class level) knows that at a certain point, anybody can win on any given day, and the guy who shows up at the track with his head screwed on straight is the guy who walks away with the trophy/medal.

Alan, good luck, but I think your lack of mental strength, focus and fortitude will keep you from being taken seriously by international milers. They're all thinking "which Alan is going to show up today? The quitter or the racer?"
reply
