Before this race, I had Lagat winning, Tegenkamp finishing second, and third was a question mark.

At the Olympic level, it's every man for himself. In distance running, you can run as a team if you are Ethiopian.

Listen to the 5k press conf for Teg's view on the plan.

Strategy 4 years ago

He was asked a question about the strategy and he answered it. He's mostly mad at himself for following a strategy that he's previously said doesn't work at this level. The post-race conversation with Schumacher would be interesting to hear.

No Oly or WC experience. Blaming teammates for a bad. Who is this guy?

huh? 4 years ago

what is that guy talking about??? not ready for this level of competition? He trains with Teg everyday and had a heck of a race against Legat at Pre. And he DOES have international experience running in Europe and got a 13:13 PR doing it...he is a world class athlete. Get a clue...

When Solinsky went with a 1,000 to go I was very surprised. Given his 1,500 time, he didn't have to drain the kick out of others; they had to drain it out of him. Also, a mistake so many competitors make in an Olympic year is that they don't race enough leading up to the Trials. Last year, after a long college season, Solinsky raced a good amount in the summer and his times kept dropping. Moreover, I believe that the Trials was the first time Solinsky was running a 5,000 this year. His longest track race up to this time was the Pre two mile. Honestly, I don't understand the logic of this.

Chris you're a manimal and you do WI proud...it stinks things didn't work otu for you here but you're still a champ! If anything goes down like what happened after XC, next year should be as beastly as ever. God bless.

What kind of wimp blames his teammate? Chris flat out isn't ready for this level of competition. The three qualifiers have all competed in high level international meets and are far more qualified to represent the US at the olympics.

1000miles 4 years ago

wow...that was really low of tegenkamp...

poohpoohjerry 4 years ago

poor coaching on jerry's part to set him up like that! Sure, he made the mistake of going with the plan(& not trusting his finishing abilities) but the plan should never have been out there!!!

Man 4 years ago

i wanted him to make the team, but Ian is cool too

At 800 to go, it didn't look like Teg was in any shape to throw down a 60 lap. I feel bad for Solinsky but it was not Teg's fault

Ben Raphelson 4 years ago

chris'll watch the video and see matt was struggling too. everyone besides lagat looked like they were finishing an 800m race or something, they were so tight. He'll learn from this and use it for motivation just like he did with last year's USA meet. He's got a lot of national teams ahead of him. He just needs to keep doing what he's doing. The learning curve with race tactics is steep and Chris has had a couple hard lessons.

Still gutsy race Chris!

Steve 4 years ago

This will make you an even tougher athlete, use it man! Your still the !

Out-of-Wedlock Danny 4 years ago

Stick at it Chris.

You'll be good. Don't blame Teg...you guys make good teammates.
