Its not everyday you can get mice advice from an Olympian. We stopped in the Rochester Hill Home Depot where Hansons-Brooks athlete Brian Sell puts in his hours. Watch him help customers and see what he does on the job.

Watch Brian run the marathon in Beijing on AUG 24th!

NEC:

The Home Depot work is part of a program with the Brooks-Hanson Project. It allows the athletes to work part-time to make some money during their grueling and time consuming training schedule. It's flexible work meant to give the athletes some extra cash. Most Brooks-Hanson runners work at the Hanson Brothers running stores. Brian Sell is now going the dental school. Easy with the condescending remarks if you don't know what you're talking about.

Looks like that St Francis degree really worked out for him.

lol he's so humble and downt to earth about everything. doesn't even look like he wants people to know he is an elite athlete.

Think of all the top marathoners that he beat out ot make the team who nap at home between runs, not on their feet at the store like Brian!

I wonder how many Americans that are among the top 50 in the WORLD in their sport have to have a normal job to get their income? There really isn't any money in this sport at all, is there?

yea...sorry ca$h and "brian sell fan." i realized after i posted that by reading ca$h's post way too quickly i missed a couple important parts. at first read i thought he was saying that brian didn't deserve to be paid the same as everyone else. ca$h obviously agrees with both "brian sell fan" and myself...he is right...brian sell="the man."

What a great video. Thanks!

sound quality is ridiculously bad. How can you even hear the interview with the music playing that loud?

brian sell fan 4 years ago

Optimist, he wasn't hating at all. This is what he said, exactly:

"does anyone know how much he makes working there? it isnt the normal amount everyones making working at the Home Depot...I hope
150 mile weeks and then going to work...harsh
brian sell=the man"
Obviously he is praising Brian Sell

optimist 4 years ago

hey ca$h...you're an idiot. home depot's olympic athlete developement program lets brian get full time pay AND benefits for half time work. he gets a very flexible schedule...the basic requirement is that he must average 20hrs/week over the course of a year. so if he wants to work a couple 40 hour weeks and then take 2 weeks off, that's cool w/ HD. AND HE DESERVES THIS...STOP BEING A HATER...YOU'RE JUST JEALOUS B/C YOU NEVER HAD THE WORK ETHIC TO ACHIEVE ANY PERSONAL SUCCESS FOR YOURSELF.

As a college runner, and a hardware store employee, Brian Sell is truley a badass inspiration.

its cool to see someone like sell working at home depot, tells you how much of a hard worker he is not only running wise but as a man. one thing tho, in the opening shot before you start the video, he looks pissed like he's thinking " f i don't wanna be at this stupid as s job"!! jk good luck sell, blue collar all the way baby!!

Gawd, that brings back memories of my days as a grocery stock boy. Manoeuvering those damned stairs, shrink wrapping skids of product, stocking shelves...ugh.

Good luck to Brian. I'm rooting for him over the others, just as proof that a working man can win a medal.

This is hilarious, I love seeing everyone's reaction.

This is another reason that I love the sport - it's too hard for for people like Brian to do it unless they love it, the money/fame aren't there.
Best of luck next week!!

Brian Sell's doing what Bolota Asmeron told us to do in the Euroseries II interview... have day-job, train your a** off and go to the Olympics. That's a cool example of perseverence!
