Chris Solinsky talks about the ups and downs of his 2008 season. Most important though, he reflects on what he has learned after his first full year as a professional athlete. He also talks about a possibly new event in his career along with his goals for 2009.

Be Careful,
being lean is important..he was definitely a bigger guy but is now more lean and better off for it. I agree though, he looks a LOT thinner than he was. He seems like he could use seconds if he wants..maybe a trip back to get a scrambler. I think Coach Metcalf has it right though..especially at 130mpw.

Experiences teach us. Experiences that don't go our way teach us more. Wisdom is knowledge, applied.

sounds like he is still trying to prove himself after the disappointment of the trials. He needs to be careful not to over do it and not to loose anymore weight in such a short period. If you can't have seconds while doing 130miles a week- you might be getting close to the edge- injuries will be just around the corner if he isn't careful- just don't over do it

so last year he said he was running for the wrong reasons. It sounded like he was running for redemption last year, and now he is trying to "prove himself this year" or another case of redemption. makes no sense.

Gotta love this guy.
Good luck with the steeple, Chris. It's definitely a different event.

Badger Miles are a training staple at Wisco. You calculate your milage based around 7 minute pace. If you run 70 minutes, you log 10 miles, even though, guys like Solinsky are running more than 10 miles in 70 minutes. When a runner from Wisco says he hit 100 miles, it means he probably hit 110-115.

I hope Webb starts to understand the importance of diet as well as Chris does now.

Video and audio are out of sync from about 7:40 on. Also, maybe I missed something, but after talking about his mistake last year about trying to make up for not making the Olympic Team, he said how this coming year he would try to make up for last year. But, as he must understand, last year is gone. He can't keep thinking about that. Focus on making the World Team for the sake of making that team, not for any other reason.

David what are "badger miles"? Chris is going to be legit this year (not that he already hasn't been) notice how he said he WILL make the world team and then sorta corrected himself but he knows he meant it

I think he ran a great race. Kind of similar to matt lane in body type, and he was dissapointed in 2004 because he didn't push the pace with a thousand meters to go. I thought it was pretty awesome how solinsky went for it and did the long grind home. I think its funny how these elite athletes give themselves C's for their performances. They should give themselves more credit.

one of my favorite runners....thanks for taking the time to take a w/pic me!

I hope you find out you don't like the Steeple and run the 5k and 3k again.

chris solinsky is going to tear it up this year.

Agreed Scot. Ive been wanting him to try it for a while, so since he mentioned giving it a serious go after the trials I have been anticipating it. Here is a pretty funny video showing Solinsky and Teg having breakfast before he started watching what he eats. http://blip.tv/file/996868/

I'm really excited to see Solinsky have a go at steeple. That'll be fun.

Exactly what I was going to say, Cara....how great that Chris knows this and maybe we all could carry that over into our lives out of racing too!
Just hearing it from his s a good reminder for me. Thanks.

It is so true, runners are never smart about ourselves.
