In Episode #2 of Season Four, Jack Daniels talks about the importance of knowing the purpose of the workout and why you are doing certain things. He sums it up well by saying "if can't answer that (question of purpose) then I recommend you go watch TV instead of working out"....

I've been wondering why for the last 3 years I've been on a plateau running 12 x 400s with 60 seconds rest in an avg of 75.0 and unable to break 18 for the 5k. I think I may try something different.
yes you should! if you dont hit you target you must try something new! let say what i have learn is that each week i go higher on my 12x 400s the next three weeks i go to 16x400s next week i go to 20x400s! i am 53 so i know you can do it! plus i cut my recovery down to half the time by the last week of training! 85.0 for me!good luck i know you can do it!

I really wish dumb ass old school coaches would listen to this guy. In high school my coach and many others would tell the athletes to run the workout as hard as possible. You never learn to run relaxed this way... in the end all you do is wind up overtraining.
