so Alabama shouldnt be able to shop foreigners but be able to spend tax dollars on people from out of state? isnt the point of tax dollars to reduce the cost of school for IN-state students?Yes, because out of state runners are still american and pay tax dollars- why do you think it cost more for out of state students then it does for in state students? It all balances out- foreigners do not balance it out |

The only foreign athletes in the NCAA I have a problem with are the ones who go to public schools. They get a lot of scholarship money which is tax-payer dollars. McCarthy went to Providence, a private school who used their own money on his scholarship. Go ahead. But schools like alabama should not be allowed to spend money of foreigners- they should be forced to shop americanso Alabama shouldnt be able to shop foreigners but be able to spend tax dollars on people from out of state? isnt the point of tax dollars to reduce the cost of school for IN-state students? |

maybe someone with some knowledge on scholarships can chime in...i have to imagine that even at public schools, money for athletic scholarships has to come - at least in part - from boosters. if it's true that tax payer money is going to foreign scholarships, i can see why that irks people. something that irks me even more though is college hoop stars etc that take a year or two of scholarship money - barely go to class, and then go pro...what a waste, whether their scholarships come from boosters or not. |

the only thing old thing about foreigners is they can't wave the American Flag!.......Well, at least not yet!......when you beat Americans it makes me sick!.....train at home, live at home, and rep at home...I will never chear for you foreigners!....I bet some American's chear for you foreigners during competition, Olympics, and world championships...well..not me!...I chear American ONLY..and hope failure on you all foreigners!!!!!!!!!!!....I mean if not.......to be honest I would not have watched the Winter Olympics if were not for competition between countries!...All I saw was the American Flag!...Go HOME! ....I know some Americans secretly chear for you!..Screw them!...Unless they want our support!I'm all about American pride but you just sounds really ignorant. You can cheer for Americans and hope that "foreigners" do well at the same. I would much rather cheer for someone that comes across as a good person but isn't from American than a prick thats from America. |

haha.....the real reason ye yanky American boys are so mad at foreigners, is because we come to yer country and take all yer hot looking women, and ye cant' get anything when we are around......i dont blame ye for yer anger....it must be sicking to know there is no chance.....you just cant compete with us both sexually and athletically. |

Great school, great history, great coach. The foreigner thing is really old by now. PC has some Irish and NZ athletes. It used to be one of a few that recruited from overseas but now loads of colleges do. Oregon had a Kenyan on their team that won NCAA XC! Its a fact that the NCAA and the American College system attract students from all over the world. I hear McCarthy took the semester off due to being sick but plans on returning after the summer track season for XC. I don't believe PC has an outdoor track, they use Brown which is a couple of miles away. I know Carroll and Kelly used to do all their sessions on the Brown track and around the blackstone blvd and they were the friendliest guys around, always willing to give advice. |

Suprised to see McCarthy giving the tour as I was under the belief he and treacy had fallen out leading to him leaving PCYah this must have been during the fall because from what I've heard McCarthy went home to Ireland for winter break and didn't come back |

Hannah Davidson is from NY and if you David McCarthy has been doing well in the NCAA long enough that it shouldnt be a shock to anyone that he is Irish. Ireland does have its own colleges, but if you have watched any interview with foriegn athletes that come to the ncaa, they say they come to the US b/c no other country that has a system like the NCAA. It is prep or pro, with no middle ground. They make the NCAA better and more competative. Our best athletes have to race foreigners eventually, better ease them into it in college than to have it be a total shock once they are racing at international meets.Very well said Justin. |
