Chris Layne is both a sports agent for track and field athletes and a coach. He talks about balancing both professions and how he first got involved in both. Chris coaches at Milligan College in east Tennessee and is an agent at Total Sports Management.

The last thing I would call this guy is a crook. I have more respect for him than a lot of people I know, and though he may be tough, I am sure that any one of his athletes will tell you that he does care and is completely genuine in what he does. Chris Layne is a great guy, and until you have met him personally, don't judge him. I don't see where it is a crime to coach for a smaller school for kids who still love the sport, and wish to improve themselves. Anybody who looks at that as low is a crook in my opinion.

Is it really that stupid? I have seen first hand the deception of this guy. When this video posted I got sick to my stomach. I know some of the best Coaches in track weren't the best in track, but come on, look at what this guy has accomplished. Huh... Thats a good question, What has this guy accomplished? Besides a great example of how to be a mediocre coach and agent. I hope this does not offend Flotrack in any way, but this must be said.
A mediocre agent? You obviously know nothing about the track and field business or you would know that his company represents many of the top names in the sport.

It's also really cool that he takes time on the side to help college athletes achieve their goals. He has coached several outstanding athletes at the NAIA level, had top 5 representation at the national level on more than one occasion in XC, and across the board almost all of his athletes have seen significant improvements (some dropping 4-5 minutes off their HS 5k PR). Obviously, it's difficult to recruit the top HS athletes at the NAIA level so what more would one expect.?
Personally your statements do not offend me, but I would be embarrassed to make critical statements on this board with no supporting facts.

It's amazing to see what this coach has also done for the community. Without their running program I honestly wouldn't know that Milligan was in Johnson City. My children actually recently attended a free running clinic that his runners put on and it was a great experience for them. Its refreshing to see a coach still value outreach into the community, that in itself is respectable no matter if he is an agent or not.

Statements with facts behind them do not offend Flotrack, but this guy has done a good job at Milligan. Your statement has no facts to back it up. In XC they have been in the top 5 a couple times.

Jack Daniels coached at a D3 school, yet people call him an amazing coach. I think he is, but Chris makes a living off being an agent but since he loves coaching he found a job that will allow him to do both. I think it is pretty cool that he finds time for it and it shows that he is really passionate.

It is a little confusing to me that if something made you sick to your stomach why you would go ahead and watch the video??? Maybe too much time on your hands go watch something that makes you feel better!

He's just like the other crooked agents out there. Doesn't see true talent if it hit him in the face. This guy was an average athlete trying telling guys who runs laps around him they aren't fast enough. Give me a break. Milligan? Give me another Break!
You do realize that some of the best coaches in history never ran as fast as what they demanded of there athletes. Bowerman was not the best runner in college yet he coached some of the best runners in history. Same can be said about Lydiard. Some people don't like the true talent athletes because they don't have a love for the sport that others that may not be as good do. Sometimes you can take an underdeveloped runner in high school and turn them into a top talent if you actually take the time to develop them. Seems to me that this is what this guy likes to do. I have talked to a few of his athletes both professionals and collegiate, they all seem to enjoy running for him. Thats the sign of a good coach or agent, getting your athletes not only faster or into the good meets but also not turning them off to the sport. So get off your high horse and realize that NCAA does not rule the world, some athletes that are NAIA could run circles around some of those NCAA athletes that would run circles around there coaches.
