We bring you the second workout from Team Cook in our visit to the Netherlands during the Euro Champs break. Here features Olympian Leo Manzano, former US Champ Treniere Moser and a newcomer to the elite seen, David Torrence. The workout shows the extra work that goes into an elite athlete's regime when trying to compete with the best in the world. This workout was after 2-3 others over a week span for these athletes so they had been worked pretty hard coming into it. Check out their session as the group gets ready to race in London this weekend. Treniere will be joined by teammate Shannon Rowbury in the women's 1500 on Friday while Leo will compete in the men's mile on Saturday.

Workout:
Treniere - 700m time trial (10 min recovery); 3x800 (@2:20); 4x300 (@47-45)
David/Leo - 6x800 (2:00-2:05); 5x300 (@42-39)
2min rest between 800s; 100m walk between 300s

Music:
JoeFlo - The Blender
Jet Horns - I Was Once A Glass Of Tang
The Dares - Love Me When I Leave
The Breaking - Burn
Jet Horns - Earth Pool

The video was a bit lengthy so you can check out post interview workouts with the athletes thru the links below: Treniere Moser (insightful piece with Treniere) Leo Manzano David Torrence

What the are you trying to do with the music? just pick something unobtrusive and stick with it, rather than flipping back and forth every 4 seconds.

i love... 1 year ago

david torrence's running form. such powerful strides

Graeme Gowland 1 year ago

no the trainers. not any of the flats

shoeguru 1 year ago

at first david was wearing marathoners (nike) then switched to the streak xc 2's (as leo was wearing as well)

Graeme Gowland 1 year ago

can someone identify to me the trainers that David Torrence was wearing?

Ryan Banta 2 years ago

Not over training. The pace is modest for a 3:50miler and the 300s are good on top of the 800s to push the distance overload close to repeat race distance. If you read the data about transfer of training its best to run intervals just above or below the race distance. You cannot argue with Cook's production.

THIS WORKOUT HAS OVERTRAINING WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!!!!!!!
Yeah Leo seems to be doing something right! Great season for him, Congrats!!

THIS WORKOUT HAS OVERTRAINING WRITTEN ALL OVER IT!!!!!!!
Hmmm...for overtraining, Manzano still racked up another Personal Best :o)

lazy runners is slow runners 2 years ago

I'm cracking up reading all the runners on here saying this is overtraining or too much of a workout. Might be one of the reasons you can't win races. It takes effort to get good. Why do you think they run as fast as they do.

Good gravy, that is a lengthy workout.

Is it just me? 2 years ago

Is it just me or is Dave a lot more fluid in his motion and not gritting as much as leo?

Justin From Flotrack 2 years ago

The entire race was slow. Everyone in the race ran 8-12 seconds slower than their best.

Ms. Moser ran 4:14 in London 1500.
This is after monster WOW on Flotrack.

altitude time 2 years ago

Rowbury was doing a stint at altitude. Same hard training...just higher up.

nice dress dave! David Torrence = Sell Out!

good stuff 2 years ago

It's nice seeing all the stuff that goes into the workout besides the running itself. Most athletes don't control the specifics of their workout, but seeing all the drills and stuff shows the little stuff that can be done. So that helps a lot, keep that up

Where is Rowbury during all this Team Cook stuff?? It definitely is one great group of athletes!!

awesome workout but it does seem like an awful lot!!!

Robert Lee 2 years ago

Oh yeah, keep up that Jethorns stuff..especially "I was once a glass of tang"...man, I like that about as well as the first time I heard The Stones sing "Jumpin' Jack Flash" during their 69 tour. (The Uncle Sam hat tour")
Good stuff as always.

I'm also keen to know what rest intervals were, especially for Leo and David

allie 2 years ago

that's disgusting to show that vomit. also I warmup and cooldown barefoot on the grass or turf and I have to always watch out for that BS like broken glass. you better clean it all up David. the other day I stepped on a big, real diamond earring. it pierced my left big toe. it's not infected. and I got a big diamond out of it. and i'll keep it for my pain and suffering and make another piece of jewelery out of it.

It's not a good workout until someones throws up. That's the rule.
