Uploaded by Ryan From Flotrack | April 17, 2010

On Friday April, 16th we saw the most exciting race of the early 2010 season. 8 women, 15 men, all toeing the line with the same goal. Cross the finish line first for a $10k contract with PUMA. After the women started 29 seconds ahead of the men it was hard to believe the men would chase them down, but with less than 200 meters to go Derek Scott led the charge for the men and held on for the win and the contract to become the newest PUMA athlete! Congrats to Derek Scott and thanks to all the athletes and PUMA for creating a great event that the fans could enjoy.

DUDE that was AWESOME. I LOVE the commentating, it gets me excited and ready to run. Much better than the old NBC worlds and olympic coverage of "and they round the corner...blah blah blah about non-running, oh btw he is on world record pace.."

I'm a Coward. I am Stupid. 3 years ago

Commentating is ineffective.

I like that the commentators were excited but they don't have to show it by yelling. If you ever watch cycling races where Phil Liggett and Paul Sherwen are the broadcasters they hardly yell and scream, but man I get pumped watching a race when they are commentating. They call it with great enthusiasm, interesting commentary, and total knowledge of the sport; this coverage was a notch above a couple roudy high school tracksters calling the race.

wasn't going to say anything, but since i read some detractors, i had to comment. i LOVED the commentary. i didn't know what to think about the race before i played the video, but the commentary got me in it, got me excited. it was so much fun.

Girls? Boys?

I vote YES for the new commentator.

I like the extra coverage coming out of the Floski's and I've been patiently waiting for them to loosen up a bit, but really most of them are still painfully stilted.
This was exciting and it was in-the-moment and it had passion and "flow" and clarity. I vote YES to all of that.

I love this , and I don't care who knows it!!!!!

worst commentating ever. I'm so pissed off about that commentator yelling Liam Boy and Andrew Jenson at the end. Are you serious? That was such a good race. I've watched it three times but I honestly have to turn off the volume because it's so obnoxious.

I love the commentating

That is such good commentating and view of the race, up close and personal. This is the best way to show track!!! All positive comments, focusing on the action. Great work flotrack!!!

Flotrack, why no Boston coverage this year?

I was right there!! on the field as it was all hapenning, it was freakin awesome, one of the best races by far. Flotrack did a great job, there were SOOO many races and they have total coverage, it was not easy and they did a Terrific job.

Dude that was the most exciting race I ever watched!!!!!! I even shed a few tears. That commenting was amazing! If i was running that race that would have got me pumped! Why does everybody hate that commentating. Flotrack, that was brilliant. We need that every time.
Track! is! back! baby!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

commentary debate 3 years ago

I don't think the commentary was that bad except for the fact that you guys were right next to the runners. I think it would be interesting to here how they felt about the commentary. I think it would be a little disconcerting to hear people talking about how I am fading or how I look good in the middle of the race.

THAT WAS ALL OUT BAD ASS COMMENTING!!!!!!!!!! SHAVING PUBES BABY!

Aaron 3 years ago

That was the most annoying commentating I have ever been forced to listen to. What the heck WAS that?

Running Guy 3 years ago

Great race, but annoying commentary. A commentator shouldn't inject himself into the race, yell at the runners, or tell runners that someone is gaining on them -- that potentially changes the outcome.

Mrs. Doubtfire 3 years ago

I'm all for excitement and interjecting personality in to a race commentary but that guy was over-the-top. I found his antics not only distracting but frightening. I kept thinking he was going to come out of the computer and get me. But seriously, he was annoying and obnoxious. Sorry I don't like dead-pan but that was way too much. He was ridiculous.

Probably the best commentary you'll find at a track meet!

More shoe companies should put on races similiar to the idea of the puma mile, it really makes it a race. I know fans who are more interested when it appears money is involved. Maybe this is partly due to fans imaging for a moment the "what if I won 10k..!".

Thanks puma for helping the sport. Would have been a little bad if one of the guys false started (and don't know how you would have gotten out of that mess), but overall it was good. I definately would by a brand that I thinks supports the sport over one that I think doesn't.

What was the head start for the girls? It seemed a bit short based on the finish. I think that they should take difference between the female WR and the male WR... idk, maybe that is what they did.

The commentary was definitely entertaining, but I'd like to hear what the athletes have to say about it.

Great video Great commentary

Lansing, I hate to admit it, but great commentating. Guerette at mile 57.

I wouldn't have had such a problem with the commentating if he wasn't 3 FEET FROM THE RUNNERS. I'm all for the enthusiasm, but seriously; if you were in that race working at a strategic finish from a slow start, would you want some obnoxious guy on a go-kart yelling crap at you like this?

no runner wants to hear that.
