Solinsky is the true American if you are a white supremacist. According to Thomas Paine's Rights of Man, Lagat was born, and will continue to be free and equal in respect to his rights. That being said, he has exercised his right to become a citizen of whatever country he pleases. Furthermore, he has the right to resist oppression; which in this case is the scrutiny of his American citizenship. |

"Bernard is kenyan. He ran for kenya in the 2000 olympics. Chris Solinsky is the true american. Both had phenominal times nonetheless. |

Why are some of you here so hyper-fixated on nationality? Who cares, its the individual that really counts and their enthusiasm and contributions that they bring to the sport! Look at what Lagat is doing at his age! Its amazing and inspiring to watch! I was able to get his autograph a couple of years back, what a super dude! |

Watched some of the race today. Solinsky ran well, but he has SO MUCH MORE in terms of improvement in this event. He was chopping his stride in spots, trying to use his elbows to keep guys off, and found himself (or positioned himself) near the very back of the lead group going into the last lap. He didn't look like he was just hanging on at all. In fact, he passed 3-4 guys in the last 300m, once he finally pulled out of lane one where he sat all of the race. |

I am excited that he broke the record. In my opinion if the record is to be broken again it will be in a non championship year like this year. Many runners have expressed how it is a good chance to race fast. You normally don't see super fast times in the distance races in the Olympics and World Championships. Just my opinion. So maybe we can see the best 5000 meter race at US Nationals this year. It would be fun to see lagat, solinsky, rupp etc... really push the pace and break the now new American record. |

He was primarily a 1500/mile runner up until this year. In the right setting, with his emphasis now on the longer race, he could run sub 12:50. Hold your criticism until after 2012. |

In reply to Stupid's post, the Sox would never play the Twins in the World Series because they are both American Leauge Teams, just saying. |

Lets assume youre a redsox fan, (If Derek Jeter joined the redsox, and two years from now the redsox were in the world series with lets say...the twins, would you give the same gratitude towards Jeter as a red sox fan as you would a player who had been on the team the whole time, through everything, never played for any other team? Sure Lagat is an american, by citizenship, and i am proud to have him running for our country. But it is not being racist, in fact it is natural to feel a little more proud of acheievments Solinsky makes. He was born and raised in the U.S, he is much younger, less experience, has no special advantages that Lagat doesn't, and he does not have a genetic advantage either. Lagat competed at the olympics for kenya for gods sake. The red sox would never play the Twins in the World Series because they are both in the American Leauge... just saying. |

so within the next 2 years both Galen and Solinsky will more than likely run under 12:50 and possibly faster. Also rupp will likely run around 26:45 10k.....blah blah blah |

Yeah your right. You know me too well. I am not a true track fan at all nor do I support US track and field. I don't spend hours upon hours on websites like flotrack and many others watching and keeping up to date on the sport which I actually love incase you didn't catch my sarcasm earlier. I apologize for being on a very tight budget with a lot of financial stress on family. Yeah that totally correlates with my support for the sport which I have a passion for and the country I love. I never attend meets when I have off weekends for competing or help websites cover meets. I don't write blogs for the local newspaper about running my running endeavors in high school and college or professional running. I also don't own/wear any clothing that supports USATF athletes. I don't talk about track all the time or try to promote the sport every possible chance. Thanks for making me realize that. |
