What a baby. Quit crying and tell your kids to compete in the fairest way. What a ridiculous whiny loser.
Wow..... I would give the shirt off my back any day of the week to Coach Henry. This "loser" has done more for track and field than you ever will. It is apparent you have no idea the point he is trying to make in terms of the regional qualifier. If you listen he isn't talking about just his kids, he is talking about every track athlete in the NCAA.

It's great to hear what I was thinking while trying to watch the feeds (east feed was very poor). Travel, run a heat, and that's it? I guess it's CBS that dictated the format? They better do a bang up job on coverage in Eugene. I'm glad to hear that Coach Henry et al are putting forward other ideas and I'm hopeful this will be a one time experiment. So many universities would like to host a regional--go back to four, put a minimum gate on attendance and see who supports track. It's a very exciting time for track and field in the USA, the attendance at the two qualifiers (I won't call them meets) was understandably pathetic.

Pat is right on with his comments. We have to get to a simpler system (24-8 plan) to get the the NCAAs and stick with it.
THEN we can have the time to do the things that will really promote our meets during the year. We can spend more time on getting legislation passed that will allow us to hire at least one more coach and to increase scholarships, especially on the mens side to name just a couple.
We don't have to have a MANDATE but we should encourage the scoring of most of our meets. In fact with computers we could even have a team champion of the Drake, Texas, Kansas and Penn Relays.
We could have bands at our meets. We did that this year in Minnesota it was a blast.
Schools can have kids races.
Schools could hire Flotrack to come in and tape their meets. We do that twice a year at Minnesota for the Griak and the Jack Johnson Indoor meet. There are thousands of kids, parents and fans that watch interviews and races on flotrack. As Pat said Flotrack has done more for track and field in the past 4 years than most coaches do in a lifetime of promoting. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME.
Track and cross country is far from dead in this country. We as coaches all have the same goals and that is to coach our kids to get performances, teach life lesssons and do what is best for track and field in the long run.
Of course we all have different opinions on what to do to help but in the long run this is a great sport with great people. All we have to do is be united in our efforts and we can get great things done.

you guessed wrong....didn't say anything about multi events.....
Hmm...You're contradicting yourself then. You have to perform week in and week out, right? What's different about the multis?

I like the system. Not really sure what he is complaining about other then having to go to an extra meet. cry me a river.

yeah let's just give people free passes to finals based on time trials - not head to head competition - that's how real life works right? WRONG - you have to continue to perform week after week in real life - people travel all over the country and compete week in and week out - but at the end all these coaches complain about 2 major competitions in 2 weeks.
I don't think doing away with regionals or preliminaries or whatever it's called would give athletes free passes. They still have to perform at nationals. The chance that anyone who didn't have one of the top 24 performances in their event during the regular season will score any points at nationals is very unlikely. I'm guessing you think decathletes/heptathletes should also have to qualify at regionals. In reality, decathletes compete at most in 3 decathlons before nationals. Most compete in 1 or maybe 2 decathlons before nationals. So few of them go head to head before nationals. That's unfair, right? And coach Henry is right about getting fans to come out. I consider myself a pretty die hard track fan, but I don't want to sit in the stands all day to watch the events I want to see.
