good point ancient. We are talking about the ladies, so I did not factor in the men, nor did I factor in track since this is an xc poll. My bad. |

How close were the Florida Gators cracking the Top 5? They had 3 Foot Locker Finalists. Here is a breakdown: |

I assume that when runners look at long distance they look at cross country and track and field. Washington's women won in 2008 and did not do as well in outdoor and indoor track and field. However, Oregon's men won cross country in 2007 and 2008. In outdoor track and field they also came in 2009 (2nd) and 2010 (3rd). The Oregon's women came in 2nd both 2009 and 2010 in outdoor track and field. This year the Oregon women won the indoor track and field for the first time. So, I think the women's recruiting class is still feeding off of their 2008 championship. Also, obviously, Oregon has done very well. |

Peple want to go to Washington because Coach Metcalf knows what to do with what he has. How many superpowers have gone to Oregon, yet it has been awhile since they won an XC championship. Kids want to go where there is good solid coaching. That's why when there is a shake up, people leave. I wish coach metcalf the best of luck. |

Of course every young recruit now wants to go to Washington. But if they don't produce this year I believe that will change. It's easy to be the #1 recruiting class when you have the status of #1 even if it was 2 years ago. |

Is Bab still injured?? If she returns to the team she could def be a factor for a team championship as well as an individual win |

The University of Washington has hired a new coach, Lauren Denfeld, to coach distance runners. This seems to be smart since they had no female coach, and there seemed to be dissatisfaction in the women's cross country team with the loss of Kelly Strong. So it makes sense to hire a young woman and recent graduate who the runners could possibly more easily identify with. |

That is an impressive bunch. Those recruits could almost form their own nationally competitive team. |
