Workout Wednesday - Bernard Lagat with 2011 World Championships in mind
Workout Video - Bernard Lagat became the first man to ever win the 1500 and 5000 World Championship gold medal at the same event back in 2007 when he completed the task in Osaka, Japan. Bernard Lagat still remains the second fastest man of all time in the 1500 with his PR of 3:26.34 (only the world record of 3:26.00 is better). This year Lagat will step away from the 1500 at the championship level and focus primarily on the 5000, an event he wants to win gold in at the Worlds and Olympics over the next two years. In the first ever filming of a Bernard Lagat workout (that we know of), Flotrack presents to you one of the all-time greats, enjoy! Read this interview with Bernard Lagat talking about running 12:49 this summer in Monaco. Flotrack's Best of 2011 - Performance of the Year! Jenny Simpson becomes the first American women to win the 1500m gold medal since Mary Decker-Slaney in 1983. Simpson was not the favorite on paper at the 2011 Track & Field World Championships, but ran comfortable through the rounds and put herself in position over the final 300 meters of the race. This is Simpson's first international medal and now looks to be one of the favorites for gold as we head into the 2012 Olympic Games! Sept. 1, 2011: After teammate Morgan Uceny is taken out in a fall, American Jenny Simpson wins a stunning gold medal in the women's 1500m. From Universal Sports

Ryan Hall runs american record time 2:04:58 at 2011 Boston Marathon
Flotrack's Best of 2011 - Most Watched Interview! Video Interview- Ryan Hall finishes 4th at the 2011 Boston Marathon in a time of 2:04:58. Ryan Hall's time of 2:04:58 is 40 seconds faster than the current American Record of 2:05:38 held by Khalid Khannouchi from London back in 2004, however the course is not certified for American or International records. Ryan Hall battled up in front the majority of the race, having the lead as late as 20km. In 2010 Ryan Hall became the fastest American ever at the Boston Marathon in 2:08:52. This year he ran almost four minutes faster. Hall's great performance came after he left Coach Terrence Mahon and the Mammoth Track Club. His races leading up to Boston did not indicate the results we saw today as he did not even break 1:03 for the NYC Half Marathon. Ryan Hall will look to run on the track for the 2011 track and field season this summer. The 2011 Boston Marathon was won by Geoffrey Mutai in a time of 2:03:02 which was faster than the World Record time of 2:03:59 held by Haile Gebrselassie.

Morgan Uceny - Best of 2011, Breakthrough Athlete of the Year
2011 was a career changing year for Morgan Uceny. Uceny become the world's number #1 1500 meter runner after having never made a US team prior. A fall in the WC final resulted in a 10th place finish, which turned out to be one of the few low points for Uceny in 2011 but that didn't stop her. After running at the World Championships, Diamond League wins and a USATF title at 1500 meters the Cornell grad capped of the year by running the fastest time of the year in 4:00.06.
Best of 2011- Team of the Year: Wisco XC
The Badgers had an astounding season. With a team 1-5 split of 6 seconds the Badgers came through meet after meet. When some questioned their depth, they simply continued to dominate. Taking down a reigning back to back champion was a daunting task, but the tradition rich Badgers rose to the occasion.
Flotrack Best of 2011- Newcomer Lawi LaLang
Was there any question? Let's not argue semantics, Lawi was a Freshman when it came to Cross Country. We all know Boaz, but we didnt know the guy in the Arizona top at Griak that WASN'T Sambu. Lawi set course records and didn't just win, but crushed opponents, throwing in surges that were unanswerable and clearly touting him as the best in the country.
