The Clemson University Athletics Department has announced that Lawrence Johnson, the Director of Men's and Women's Track and Field, has resigned from his coaching duties.
Athletic director Dan Radakovich made the announcement this morning regarding the resignation. Shawn Coeby has been appointed as the Interim Director of the program.
Flotrack reached out to Associate Sports Information Director Philip Sikes who provided a statement via email. "Earlier today our Director of Athletics, Dan Radakovich, accepted Coach Lawrence Johnson's resignation," Sikes said. "The parties mutually agreed to terminate their contract effective today, January 8. This is an in-house personnel matter, and we won't be commenting any further on it. We thank Coach Johnson for nearly five years of service and wish him nothing but the best in the future."
In nearly five season at Clemson, Johnson has coached 48 ACC champions, 34 Clemson event record-holders, 5 NCAA champions, and 3 Olympians.
The announcement comes on the same day that the USTFCCCA ranked the Clemson women as the #1 team in their NCAA DI indoor preseason poll.

Upon first meeting him, from the beginning he seem to be a pain in the butt. Told my daughter she was too fat, she was. Reduced her scholarship by 10%,she got it back. For two years she never reached the promising potential she had under the previous coach foaming to Clemson as a 3 time champion in 3 different events. To his credit though, coach Johnson turned her into a three time all-American , acc champion and potential Olympian. as much as she hated it at times, they developed a great relationship.Coach Johnson wherever you are and end up going, thanks for what you did for my daughter .
