Less than 8 weeks ago Chris Derrick, the fastest American distance runner to never win an NCAA title, signed a contract with Nike and made the move to Portland, Oregon to train with the nation's deepest training group under coach Jerry Schumacher. Derrick gives insight on his decision to go with Schumacher, the dynamics of the team and new training system, and also where we will see him running in 2013. It should be noted that Derrick now lives in the fastest distance house in the America with Elliot Heath, Evan Jager and German Fernandez.....which is also discussed in this video.

Looking forward to seeing that US cross race! Wonder how Derrick will do against ex-Stanford teammate Jake Riley (Brooks-Hanson) who won club xc.. Should be exciting!

Great stuff with these interviews. you guys should look into reporting some of the salaries of the top us runners. i feel like track is the only professional sport where the public really can't definitively know how much the stars are making. would be interesting to see what cd's contract was. ))))

I'm the public and I DO NOT wish to know what these runners make. The only people that get off on that are these millionaire NFL, MLB and NBA cry babies that have to show the world what THEY make.

I can't recall a time when so many talented American runners were training in the same location. This will hopefully produce some great results down the road if they don't burn each other out in practice!

The Man, Goldie Locks, & The Child..... but what is Chris? It must be tough though wading through all of Jager's hair-care products in the bathroom in the morning.

It would seem imperative that their race schedules could potentially be slightly more experimental and frequent. Why not throw in a few Carlsbad 5k's or other similar type events? Getting locked into the financial circus of the Diamond League meets could be counter productive and even tenuous. How much decision making power does each athlete actually have? Do they race only when Schumacher says so? Or is it more like, "I'm feel I'm ready, I want to do this or that race/distance" ? It would be fascinating to see one of their workouts together on Flotrack - and please, no "Premiere" charge!
