"Thirsty For More" is the best way to describe 2012 Olympian Kim Conley's approach to the 2013 season. This winter she is pouring energy into speed and strength development. While a London berth and 15:14 lifetime best capped a great 2012 season, missing the final at the Games left Kim feeling incomplete. In this interview, Kim discusses her off season work as she gets ready for the Campaccio XC race in Italy on January 6.

Girls always do seem to train a bit faster. Even when I was in 14:50 shape there were 18 minute girls who would blow by me at the beginning of recovery runs. Even on "normal" days I never averaged better than 6:40's and most days I ran 7-7:30

Reed, I'm with you. All the top runners train mostly on dirt roads and soft grass surfaces to preserve their joints. Also, they do speed work during every training not just once every 2 weeks. Check out some of the Salazar interviews for confirmation.
Guys-
To be fair, Kim just ran on the roads for a short time. The best footage came on the road. My hand is steadier. Her training, from what I can tell, is very intelligent and calculated. This would explain her awesome improvements and growth as an athlete.

yeah i run 14:54 and i run 6:30 on easy days unless im feeling really drained so since shes a girl that does seem a little fast but then again Im 19 and shes 25 or something so who knows. At that age I may go 6 flat on easy runs.

Does anyone else think women tend to run their easy mileage faster than men with equivalent or better PRs? Sub 6:30 easy days for a 15:15 runner seem a little fast. I'm not a coach so I'm probably wrong....just a thought.
