After taking a long look at what drives him everyday, Jacob Hernandez has decided that he's going to step away from track and field. The three-time NCAA champion feels that it's his time to move on. He's been through the highs and lows that the sport has to offer and like anyone who's passionate about something, it's tough to look back and say, "Do I have any regrets?"

DAMN! Jacob is an amazing athlete and he seems like a great guy. Watching videos of Texas at the Penn Relays still gives me chills not to mention Jacobs 800m battles. He will be a success in whatever he chooses.

sorry to hear: JHern was on of those 'early' post-collegiates for which Flotrack was a big media-outlet. He's one the those early-birds to race in Europe I was able to see after seeing them race on Flotrack.

It shows how difficult it is for those good athletes, who aren't in the bigger spotlight of the SDL or major meets, to keep developing and make the next step after going pro (the first step).
Hope he will do well in whatever he's up to!

Great interview. I have struggled with these feelings myself. This sport can be a lonely road and every year I ask my self if I should continue. After I take a break I look at my spears in the corner of the garage and if I really want to go out and throw I continue on.

I wonder if there's a major injury a la Bruce Denton going on that we don't know about...
