Track and field is heading in the right direction. As the president of Track Town USA, Vin Lananna's job is to look at the big goals for track and field. Although it's based in Eugene, Track Town isn't a geographic location, but an organization that is looking to move the sport forward.

In his first ever Skype interview, Lananna clears the air about the USATF position, recalls his favorite moments as a coach, and explains the purpose of Track Town.

Great White North picked it. He went with the Canadian, Sheila Reid. So, as agreed, I'm about to grace my living room with my rendition of "Oh Canada". Good call GWN. Got to give Reid some credit. That's her fastest mile ever, in or out of doors! Mamy others wern't too far off with Mary Cain either. I'm just trying to grasp a high school junior running an indoor 4:29!

I'm more concerned with Sheila than Hilary. But one's fresh off the Nova' team and the other was a Wisconsin Badger (but that was a while ago). If either wins I'll stand up and sing Oh! Canada with you! I can see Kingston, Ontario across the lake from where I grew up in NY State. C-Ah! N-Ah! D-Ah!, get it, Ah?

I've heard lots of details at the local GoDucks.com site AC. Many times. He keeps the school up to date. This wasn't supposed to be a half hour/45 minute interview.(So what's your pic among the girls at the Melrose mile? I don't want to even hazzard a guess. Way too close. I think it will come down to who's having the best day.)

Had to doctor my sound card settings to get the echo out of the sound, BUT, it was exciting to hear from Coach Vin as the Oregon program starts flexing its muscles in the indoor season. The Ducks are one of the "healthiest" programs in NCAA. By that I mean the entire program, from recruiting to NCAA Championships, is operating at a level few colleges and universities have ever seen. Keep in mind this is an 18,000 population school, well under the huge numbers of a Texas A&M or Ohio State program. It is just fascinating to see the high school and graduate school students with remaining elegibility line up to get into this running program. In my mind one of the great strong points of this program is where the Oregon athletes progress to after NCAA. If the program is solid you will see that progression. In the future I would like to be there for the ground-breaking of the new indoor track facility. If you think the Ducks are strong now, wait until that project is completed and we get them out of the winter rain practices.Thank you coach for the interview.
