Team website: www.blacksburgtrack.com Blacksburg High School is located in Blacksburg, VA the largest town in Virginia. There are about 1200 students at the school in grades 9-12. Blacksburg has a rich running tradition. The girls have the most state titles (fourteen) of any XC program in Virginia, no matter the classification. The boys have nine state titles - also the most in Virginia. The boys and girls also are tied with Clark County with the most consecutive state titles wins for both programs in the same year. Blacksburg boys and girls won state in 1983, 84, and 85. The girls in 2008-09 and in 2013-14 won the triple crown, winning XC, indoor and outdoor state titles in the same year. The girls have won six of the last nine state XC titles and have been second the other three. The boys have placed in the top five at the state meet the last seven years including four state championships and one runner-up. The 2012 boys team finished the year ranked 10th in the USA!! They are considered one of the greatest xc teams in state history and went 1-2-3-5-8 at the state meet in team scoring. If all the other teams and individuals were allowed to have counted as one team - Blacksburg still would have won! Nick Link, Matthew Pasier, Noah Combs, Matthew Borny, Luke Phillips, Kenneth Hagen and Nick Wilson made up the varsity. The girls 2009 team finished 6th at the Nike Cross National meet in Portland, OR and finished 6th in both national rankings for the greatest team in Blacksburg's history. Kathleen Stevens, Joanna Stevens, Leah Fitchett, Hannah Brown, Sarah Dorrell, Tamzin Kaiser, Kate Buss made up the 2009 team. The Blacksburg Distance Medley Relay team won the 2010 Penn Relays in a meet record and also won and broke the national record at the New Balance Outdoor Championships. The Blacksburg boys scored an upset national title winning the Nike Indoor National title in the 4xmile (2010). Blacksburg girls have won the last five out of seven indoor track state titles and also the 2009, 2010 outdoor state titles. The boys won the 2012 Indoor state title and were runner-up in outdoor. In the last six years Blacksburg has had fifteen girls run 5:10 for 1600 meters or faster, with three of those under 4:50. In the last five years the boys have had thirteen at 4:31 or faster with six under 4:17. 18 athletes have received athletic scholarships for college and 15 others also were able to compete for their college/ university in Coach DeMarco coaching career which includes two years in Alaska. Blacksburg has had two athletes win four Virginia Gatorade Athlete of the Year for track (3) and cross country (1).
