Former Abilene Christian, South Carolina and LSU head track coach Bill McClure passed away at his home Saturday night after a long illness. He was 86.

Stanford Legend Peter Tegen Announces Retirement
Stanford's legendary head cross country and track coach, Peter Tegen, has announced that he will be retiring following the 2008 track season after 44 years of coaching. Going into his final NCAA Championship, Tegen has an impressive list of accomplishments. Throughout his 33 years of collegiate coaching, Tegen has coached athletes to 44 individual national titles and a 302 All-American Honors. He has won 45 conference titles and is a 5 time National Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Olympic gold medalist admits doping Olympic gold medalist Antonio Pettigrew admitted publicly for the first time Thursday that he used performance-enhancing substances during a long, successful sprinting career in which he passed all drug tests. The admission came during the last day of testimony for the government in the trial of his former coach, Trevor Graham, who is accused of lying to federal authorities investigating doping in sports. Graham has pleaded not guilty. It was also revealed Thursday that Olympic sprint champion Justin Gatlin worked undercover for authorities investigating doping in sports, according to the testimony of IRS agent Erwin Rogers. |

World-record holder Paula Radcliffe expects to run the marathon at the Beijing Olympics despite an injury to her left leg.An MRI scan Thursday revealed a low-grade stress fracture of her left femur. The injury also affects her hip. Still, the Englishwoman says she's "90 to 100 percent" likely to compete in the marathon Aug. 19.

Volunteer XC Coach Lomong Hits Olympic "A" Standard Lopez Lomong, the new volunteer coach for the Air Force cross country team, earned the Olympic `A' qualifying mark in the 1500-meter run at the adidas Track Classic over the weekend. Lomong, a two-time national champion and five-time All-American at Northern Arizona (2005-07), finished fourth at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., with a career-best time of 3:36.36. |
