I think you are clueless as to Michael's modus operandi, go to the IAAF page and read the transcript of his chat and you will see how he thinks. Tyson and others were quick to congratulate Bolt-there is always this American Vs Jamaican rangling in athletics. Jamaica is a smaller a country and so the fight does not even make sense, they will not achieve the level of success like America, but you must admit it when you see it, there are indeed "pockets of greatness" emmanating from that country that is far smaller than the US. Going back to the early 50's and you will see the history of greatness and good sports rivalry between Jamaica and the US.

Despite Mr. Johnson's history, it seemed that from what i read that all Johnson was saying was that he was shocked. He mentioned nothing with Usain's nationality, didn't question the time, and did not put any false or insulting statements about Bolt. He simply said he was shocked, just like Bolt said he was shocked.

Dont watch nutten my fellow Jamaicans. Much is going to be said by all regarding this performance. I too am surprised at the performance of Bolt. Having said that we have to remeber that this yout is a phenomenon. At 14 he was 6'3 and running and winning the 100 at Boys Champs against the best in Jamaica. He always felt he could do well in the 100m. His coaches always thought, because of his incredible height, that he is better suited for the 400m and 200m. So they turned his focus to the longer distances. Lets face facts. Bolt is unusually quick for a big man. This quickness coupled with his great power is what is producing these fantastic times. Ill tell you all this. If Usain was taking him traing more seriously in the past the Michael Johnson would be looking for ways to make a come back and we would not be worrying about what Asafa was going to do.

R U still shocked, he went under 10 seconds again and this was outside Jamaica where this was the first time that someone had gone under 10 seconds.

Michael is not saying he was shocked, having done his research as a sportswriter he would have seen that the young man is not a "fly by nigt" athlete. He has been improving since he was 14 years old, he holds the world record for Junior over the 200m a feat not done by any other individual yet (19.93) Michael did not accomplish this until he was in his 20's. So what is there to be surprised about. Would you say that his thought about others having to trip Gay as unintentional or just a slip of the tongue it is in the transcript on the IAAF page. He is known to say these things if it relates to athletes that are not American. I am an American and so are many members of my family.

Poor Micheal... some one need to let him know he should consult persons who knows about track and field before he makes his statements, does he get paid for saying stuff?, he sounds like some one kissing up for a greencard.

Well, said I could not have put it any better. Someone in a previous post thought I was just "over reacting" , it had nothing to do with over-reacting, but we get blinded by stars like Michael Johnson who never learned how to reason in a logical way and be objective, remove the emotional baggage. Many are mum about Mr. Greene and our last 100 meter champion at the olympics. The excuse is that he had Jamaican connection, therefore, that is the reason why he took it. I would not be surprised if I hear that the young up and coming Jamaican Blake is taking drugs, what about the young Americans who have natural talent? I think Michael needs to be objective and give Kudos to who it is due. (Veronica Campbell, Lauren williams, Allison Felix, Sanya Richards, Usain Bolt, Kerron Stewart, Asafa Powell Nikiesha Wilson, Bianca Knight, Kelly Baptiste, Richard Thompson and the gentleman from the Netherlands) These are only a few I have time to list, but you notice I didn't put one country. Mr. Johnson, I hope you are reading these, it will help you to sort out your thought process and be objective.

It is not so much about athletes from another country, but from Jamaica. This all started with Donovan Bailey from Toronto who was born in Jamaica. Bailey was the fastest in the 100m at the time and the Americans did not have a counter. Mr. Johnson was the toast of the 200m and consequently the American Media was toasting him as the fastest man in the world. This title in all the years up to that year was given to the 100m holder( usually an American). Foolishly Mr. Johnson ate it while being absorbed with himself.
At a news conference when asked about the issue of the fastest man in the world, Donovan Bailey tactfully replied, "...Michael knows the difference between 27mph and 25mph". This reference to Baileys' 100m time and Johnsons' 200m is beyond nationality and is totally objective. The dispute was compounded in the 150m race at the them "Sky Dome" between the two, where Mr. Johnson was soundly being outclassed pulled up limping(we are to believe, injured). The real root of the problem was the fact that both Bailey and Johnson used to train in Texas and Michael was not even the fastest man in his own State or Country. Instead of being professional about the matter he resorted to subjectivity and being petty.
Now, you have Asafa Powell and Usian Bolt, both Jamaicans. Should his comments be any different. The pettiness continues. Where is there any objectivity and professionalism from Mr. Johnson.
Without objectivity, where is there any credibility for a reporter ?Mr. Johnson
has told us clearly not listen to rantings, as they are without substance.

Yes, I did, it is quite unfortunate that you did not see what he was saying, he was not saying that he congratulate the young man, he has been quite critical of late of several individuals such as Asafa(Like Asafa will have to trip Tyson Gay in order to win a major race) and others. He was not saying congratulations, this was his quote in the latter part of the article "Usain said he was shocked. I'm shocked too. I never would have predicted he could run that fast over 100m."(Sarcasm)
What is Michael Johnson shocked about, if this individual was an upstart then you would be shocked. I am not worked up, it has nothing to do with being worked up it has to do with one's ability to give credit if it is due. I will revisit a previous comment, AF is a pretty good athlete and if she wins the 200 I think she has talent, but it will not be a walkover. There should be no hard feelings.

Here we go again, Michael. Only American athletes can run those times? I think for a former athlete you are so full of yourself. No wonder why lots of individuals do not take kindly to some Americans, and you are one of those. Give the youngster a break, He has been running like that since he was a child, check the record books Michael and you will see. As a reporter you need to do your research before you make such disparaging comments about other people. If Jermemy broke your world record in the 400 meters you would not consider that a "fluke", it might not be Jeremy, it might just be Mr. Merritt.
Get a grip on life and give praise to whom it is due. Alyson Felix is a talented athlete who is almost the same age as Usain, in her situation she could run good times, but if the person happens to be non-american then they don't have the talent and can't do it.. Shame on you Michael, I respected you, but of late and I am getting aggravated with how you treat athletes from other countries.
