About
The Kolas Calculator is your tool to find out what teams will qualify for the NCAA Championships on November 21st in Terre Haute. Kolas is based off of projected regional finishes and teams that have currently competed in XC competition. As more teams compete and as teams projected outside of the top two in their region beat top two projected teams from other regions, points will be accumulated. As the season continues these points will begin to mix things up and create some drama when looking at who's in as an "at-large" pick. The Kolas Calculator is named after Brian Kolas - its inventor.

Cal beat Ucla and Oregon by 2 pts, if either team beats Cal they go to the meet. Ucla has 17 wins against the Nationals field and Oregon 10 so they would have no problem getting into the meet...the west is tough!
If Cal had finished behind Oregon & UCLA in the West, would Oregon and UCLA have made it in? My assumption is that they were not able to push in Cal because Cal Poly was already pushed in by WSU. Is this correct? I'm pretty sure I have a good grasp on how the at-large qualifiers are named, taking into account a combination of regional placement and wins against teams that already qualified, but I was just curious about the West.
Thought it was great that LaCaze and Soph. Cory McGee got in from Florida, running only 1 second apart in 4th and 6th place at the South Regionals. Abby D'Agostino from Dartmouth got in (was there ever any doubt). Some great individual talent in the fight next week.
The guys discussed how Cal Poly made it in despite not traveling- this is an exception. A lot of teams who don't have the budget to travel get screwed by this system because although they could compete with teams like Notre Dame they don't get an opportunity to race at the big meets throughout the season. This system makes big meets throughout the year a must for teams that want to get in from tough regions. Also WHY are there not a similar number of teams in each region? They vary greatly.
LOL, I'll bet those gator girls are ticked!
Ummm how are you so confused... The chalk on the board ties in the theme of the Kolas Calculator. Math... calculator.. get it.

can someone explain to me all the math on the chalk board behind the video player?
Not too many surprises for the qualifying list for Terra Haute, IN Championships; You have got it together with the Kolas Calculator!
my heart is always with the tigers.....clemson.....but yes, to the lions i owe an apology.
Fenton....the Columbia Tigers?? Haha seriously man?
What a shame. Providence didn't make it...?!!!!!! They're ranked #5 in the nation :/ Guess you can't do much if you don't place well at Regionals...
Cal Poly finishing 3rd messed everything up. WSU pushed them in, but everybody else who finished behind WSU didn't have enough.Pointers
Smooth...
How do only 4 men's teams go from the West? Arizona State has beat 9 teams during the season that are going. Oregon and UCLA have beat about just as many.
Smooth...
Karma's a b**** emily sisson. leaving wisconsin at the bottom of the big ten to go to a podium team and then have to watch them make it to NCAAs while your team doesn't even come close.
Funny how that works
Don't totally understand how Arizona St. women get in taking 7th in their region and only having 3 "wins" when Iowa takes 4th in Midwest and has 4 "wins"
Duke has their top 2 runners injured, as for Brasovan, she has been injured and just recently started to run in meets (within last month) and is not at her form High School.
How many teams on each side get to nationals? This chart says 31 but the break down has 41 and 38
new mexico doesn't even have Kipruto anymore, I'm assuming all this is counting on them coming in 4th for their region.. yet they are ranked 7th. What's going on there?
If they beat UofL and Virginia Tech will that help them climb to a more secure spot?
unc has to get top two in the region to be a sure thing.
What does UNC have to do at regionals to secure a spot?
steve, there is no error. the rankings you are looking at are from the coaches regional rankings. those are just a few people's opinions ;)
The women's Kolas calculator for 10/18 appears to have two small errors....Notre Dame should be #2 in Great Lakes, not Michigan....In the West it should be Washington #1, Arizona #2,,,NOT Stanford #1, Washington #2
Does anyone know what is up with the Duke women? Seymour, Borttoff, Brasovan (never has run)...and I am sure I am missing someone.
uga has beaten everyone listed except unc...
What has Georgia done? They beat every team on the board except for North Carolina who they lost to by 30 points at Wisco.....
