@Charm from my understanding Hannah Cunliffe is home schooled which know a days really inst a bad option, plus she will run with a high school team from what I have heard so she is a FRESHMAN, who just happens to be able to beat many open athletes.

Charm 2 years ago

If Hannah Cunliffe does not go to school unlike the rest of the field, is she really a freshman or an open athlete?

Why wouldn't some of these athletes run both NBN and Brooks? NBN is March 11 & 12 ? For a HS kid a trip like this where they will be given some swag and treated special is a lot of fun and a great opportunity. Also fast running is fast running, if you break 1:50 for the 800, college coaches are not going to care that it was on an oversized trak. Great Job by Brooks for investing in HS track!

Smart Marketing 2 years ago

These guys are smart. Historically they have been known as a distance shoe company among the athletes. Walk around an infield and see how many sprinters are wearing Brooks. Not alot, if any. With this meet and they way they are promoting it with a PR/Speed theme combined with the new look they are going to move directly into the sprint space. Smart very smart. I have already seen alot of sprinters wearing their flats and spikes at preseason practices. Nice work Jesse, keep thinking it's paying off.

real nationals? 2 years ago

How are the New Balance nationals quantified as a national championship? Are the recognized by any governing body? I think all the meets are great for promoting high school track and field but everybody needs to be honest and recognize that all the meets are just big invitationals and not national championships.

Props to brooks for supporting high school track. Those spikes are nice going to buy me some to support.

Brooks & Jesse, beautiful job on organizing this meet. I can say that in our neck of the woods all kinds of people are talking about this meet and what it brings to the table for promoting HS track. I know many locals that will be coming to this meet simply to watch. I will be there for sure. Quality work!

I totally agree with Track FAN! This is about raising the bar for HS Running, and offering more opportunities to HS Runners. You want olympic medals for the US in distance events? This is where it starts. Thanks BROOKS!

It's great to see a company other than Nike putting their money out there to support High School track & field! Way to go Brooks! Brooks is a Seattle-based company, and it's a great idea for them to put on such a great event for national caliber high school athletes. I hope it will be a huge success, and it should if Jesse Williams is working behind the scenes. I for one will be tuned into my computer on the 27th!! Thanks Brooks!

It is important that events accurately portray participant and acceptance lists. It is not proper to use kids names when they have not committed nor will not be attending. Also, Najee Glass has gone on record to say he will not be attending with the change in dates of the NJ Indoor Meet of Champions to the day before Brooks and additional NJ student athletes will likely not attend as well due to this change and some will. Is it too much to ask for meet management to be accurate in their depictions and representations and present accurate lists? It is common knowledge on the East Coast with info on sites such as NJ Runners and Milesplit as to what are the plans of these athletes. Not too much to ask that lists be accurate and that should be a responsibility of meet management. Gilmore and Kinkead from PA will not be at Brooks so let's take their names off.
seriously, who are you? how do you have all this information, have you talked to them personally? why is it that big of a deal. no one is going to make there decision to go to the brooks meet weather or not the 2 PA athletes go or not. let it go

ok crazy... 2 years ago

Why would Brooks meet management list Kinkade as a participant? She is getting over mono and may or may not run at her state meet the day before. Same with Matt Gilmore and state meet in PA. These two athletes NEVER COMMITTED as per their coaches via PA Milesplit. How many others will not make it and never committed? Credibility issue here.
who are you to know whether or not these 2 athletes have committed? and if they did and they are racing why do you care?

I read through some of these comments- it seems to me that either some are working for other shoe companies or track meets or they forgot that getting kids together to run is a really great thing. Expressing so much negativity is usually reserved for other sports. I believe it is great that kids that love to run are getting more opportunities to do it with a variety of types of competition. Some will be ready, some won't- some focus on indoors- some don't. I believe these events should be enjoyed- I know the kids do. Thanks to all who promote our sport and put these events on. If you want to promote shoes- great. We can handle some marketing - we see it everywhere, everyday.

Just curious 2 years ago

What is the schedule/order of events for this meet?

AJL 2 years ago

I strongly believe that this invitational should include field events, particularly jumping/vaulting. I realize that Brooks does not (currently) produce field event spikes, but the addition of these events (and spikes) would benefit the event, Brooks, and fans. Dempsey has jumping pits--they ought to be used!

Jesse Williams 2 years ago

Great to see that people are passionate about this meet, no matter what side you take! I thought I should step in and clarify a few things at this point. The Brooks PR Invitational was just a fun idea we had to get as many good high school runners together and put them in a great situation to run fast. We happen to be lucky enough to have the Dempsey in our backyard so it's a great venue for the cause. 307 meters yes, but as another poster said.....it all adds up to the same final distance in the end.

We sent out Golden Ticket Invites to the top 10-15 returners from each track event using track and field news overall lists from 2010. We also sent invites to the top 10 from NXN and Footlocker. On top of that we left it open for coaches/parents/athletes to lobby for spots in these elite fields. We were lucky enough to have a great response and the fields are very good. Some athletes haven't run yet this indoor season but their credentials from previous seasons were enough to get a spot. We also tried to invite a few athletes that have been running well this indoor season that might not have made the 2010 lists. We are sure we missed a few great athletes and know for a fact that not all of our invites were received. It's the first year of the event and we will get better. The meet will hopefully speak for itself on the 27th so tune in and watch! Any comments or questions would be great and can be emailed to us at PRinvite@brooksrunning.com
