Justin,
If you were watching, 480+ votes came after the contest was over on the 30th. You can still vote on some shoes actually still changing their totals. It's people still giving it one star votes.
My feeling is that Saucony must have realized this going in. And as someone posted who really liked one of my shoes . . "Too bad these contests, like most public on-line voting contests, it's based on the person with the biggest on-line network/blog of folks to just pop-on and vote for you."
And I'm sure there is some truth to that, but it is what it is. I'm not sure what Saucony will/would have done differently with any of the designs that may be on the "niche" market, maybe make it a FloTrack Spike Design "Limited Edition".
It was fun to see what people thought of and how many of them fed off one another, like how all the "Fam" designs popped on after mine;) But that's cool, like the famous expression goes, "All artists are thieves to parts of their creativity"—and even I stole the lotus flower idea from the artist who did Fams’ tattoo, but Fam is an artist himself, so maybe I stole it from him:O
Dont get me wrong Antonio, I dont think your spike isnt any good. It is better than a vast majority of shoes in that a lot of girls would wear this spike and they are a niche market almost completely ignored in this area. I just think that it is insane that your shoe got 500+ votes while most other shoes didnt even come close to a fraction of that number. I am sure there are other people who have a similarly inflated number. I guess I do have to give you credit for putting in the effort to get that many votes.
As a high school track coach, i know that a lot of the girls on my team would love to have these spikes. They aren't pros, probably never will be. But, if a shoe company only made shoes that pros would like they would go out of business. Good design.
Good job antonio. I wouldnt wear them of course. But if I was Jessica I would be saying "O my god antonio I think I want to marry you."
Leave the poor kid alone. If you dont like the design dont buy the shoe. Its not like you would take a loss if it doesnt sell. Support the track community people. Whats wrong with you.
Hey Justin,
I'm sorry you feel that way, but the "really inovative" kids on here made a joke out of this whole contest, first off, with their posts, how about no posts unless you have been on Flotrack for a year+ when you log in to post. Otherwise people make fake accounts like Rupp down here. Second of all, I think the contest SHOULD be changed, having my facebook friends help me out or getting your homeroom students to vote for your shoe or voting down a shoe. You can say anything you want about the way it looks, your opinion.
Lol, this guy accuses me to stop pretending to be someone else when I'm not, yet you post as anonymous to talk trash?? You're literally nobody and your opinion doesn't matter.
Just wondering if there's any chance of this design being made with a wide color selection. The actual repetitive pattern really lends itself to shades of any other color....even black/grey. Terrific ..... terrific is all I can say.
Not hard to tell you can just sing out and pretend to be someone else Sanchez. Nobody is fooled. These spikes are the worst thing to happen to track and field since the race walk
This is a great looking spike, take from someone in the industry. Great job, asanchez. Creativity, understanding trends, patterns, and colorways, very professional.
This year's contest was top-notch. Great job, everyone.
The problem with this is that a legit shoe company offered up a wonderful oppertunity to reward creativity and artistry for those of use who want to marry that with running. Some people knew how to exploit the computerized democratic process and now a shoe that most male runners would jump off a bridge if they lost to a runner wearing these spikes won and lets face it, majority of people on flotrack are male. It is a shame that really innovative and creative kids in this contest didnt ever have a fair shot because they didnt realize it would take computer loop holes to win. Also, I feel bad for Saucony and wouldnt blame them if they never did this contest again.
Non school-afiliated/eduactional websites ie.(myspace, facebook...flotrack) are always blocked in highschool/middleschool. Using proxies is one way to freely surf the internet there. Highschoolers...
I also checked some of the other shoes...guess what I found, mostly others used proxies. Especially one Kevin Dolan guy with the red shoes, he has lots of votes too.
Hey Bolland, you get a life. Who cares if there are snowflakes on the shoe, it won, thats not you or anyone elses problem.
Helmsted when you copy and crop then paste another design on your shoe, it takes 20 seconds tops, some designer you are. Yeah way to go kids.
Rofl, i wasted precious seconds of my life on you losers, but it was worth it.
Nick Higgins, get a life. I doesn't matter if he stole his name idea. The competition is on the design not the name. Nobody likes running in the snow. WHY THE HECK ARE THERE SNOWFLAKES ON A RUNNING SPIKE!!! I liked heimstead's wayyyy more. I say there should be a run off. a race not some dumb voting thing.
For being a teacher you really act like a child.
"My crap is MARKETABLE, wha wah wah"
haha, "can I get extra credit, Mr. H?? Please, Pretty please? I'll go to my friends house to vote again? Oh. C'mon." sore loser, way to be an example for the kids.
Sould have given them more credit.
If you want to negatively comment on how this shoe sucks, go ahead and waste your time, you'll never get back those seconds you lost .ing,
some of you have really thought about it long ,
think about this..... the contest is over!!!!!!!!
Brett Heimstead, you are bashing him because you claim that his design has no design concept and was so easy to make, but yet you plagiarize someone else's idea by using the run reckless idea. When you blatantly take someone's creative idea and try to play it off as your own, that is NOT creative. It's just sad and pathetic. Face it, you lost. Plenty of other people, myself included, lost as well and yet are not complaining about it.
thanks for the support for the Run Reckless Foot that was my design...
now granted i asked some of my students vote for my shoe because i was so far behind. I still feel that my shoe is MARKETABLE. Also i am glad this guy got to win this shoe for his imaginary girlfriend. Cheating in a contest won't get you a girlfriend dude. You made the shoe using a cheap photoshop brush and it took all of 3 minutes. There is not one ounce of a design concept here.
In support of my shoe: Fam now runs for Saucony, his logo from reckless running (which doesn't appear to be too successful) would work great on a shoe (i.e. my design) http://www.flotrack.org/saucony_2009/spike_design_photo/283251
i guess i am being a sore loser...
Also, it was my understanding that Saucony was going to create ONE pair of shoes for the winnner, not put these into mass production. I could be wrong though.
"Peoples, come on, remember the "sell yourself" contest? The dude who won looked like prefontaine. These contests are not judged by a panel of experts, but are instead a competition of who can network to their friends the most. If you entered this thinking good "marketable" design was going to win, then I guess you deserve what you got...not winning."
It's not even what the majority thinks. If you wanted to vote multiple times in this contest all you needed to do was go on proxy.org, type in the URL and visit this page a million times. If you are masked by a new IP address you can vote as much as you want. I checked out this entry when I saw it had a bajillion votes by opening it up with proxies and it wouldn't let me vote, implying that that IP address had already voted for this entry. Either the entrant or one of his friends had to have voted like, 300 times with 5-stars. How else would he win by so many votes getting like, a full star ahead of everyone else?
I have worked in a running shoe store, and I talked to a couple shoe company reps, and these are going to be a nightmare to manufacture. Congrats on the win! I would definitely like to see a pair in person to see how they end up doing it.
should have made it that you could only vote if you are logged in as a member. Also, most people who were in the contest probably gave bad ratings to good shoes so that that shoe wouldnt beat theres. Then you get the guy who sends the link around to people who have never been to flotrack and never will return to vote for this shoe and then not look at any others. Would have been nice if it got narrowed down to like a top 5 or 10 so it evened out the playing field a little.

for the record, these shoes look like a unicorn fairy threw up on them. I much preferred the Run Reckless bone foot.
Of course this is not "geared towards guys." Like I said before, I made these because I thought it would be cool to have these made for my girlfriend if I won.
That's what the contest is about. You design a shoe, if you win you get it made, simple. I don't care if other people will want to wear it, if they do, great. It's up to Saucony if they want to make them for others or not.
Not going for these at all! This is great for an art project or maybe for you if your into flowers and stars. As a product geared towards market demand and supply within the economic side of athletes geared towards running this is a guaranteed failing product. Girls might like this but the chance of guys liking this is a whole other story.
OMG, I'm, like, a "serious" runner, and as such, can't possibly fathom wearing THESE spikes. I mean, they're for, like, silly little kids that don't know anything, not a serious professional like ME. Plus, I agree with Galen Rupp (OMG, I love you, even if you are trolling!) - there's like no way anybody could put that design on a shoe! *Seriously*, it's not like we have superb graphic design and manufacturing technologies in this day and age. Like, what the F, guys?!
This is not geared toward the common runner at all. I am a female runner in college and I would never be seen wearing these in public. The design is nice, but for a 10 year old, not a serious athlete.
im jealous that its so much better than mine, but can appreciate its success! its a novel idea, and the spike isnt designed for the average joe...but instead for the specific winner...and it looks like we have one! well done asanchez!
Sorry Whalen,
I made the shoe. They aren't for the average joe, true, but
I made these because I thought it would be cool if I won, my girlfriend could wear really nice Saucony racers. Thats it.
Dude you're just bitter that this spike is not only beating yours but dominating yours... you're just jealous that this spike is going to win, and yours is not.
And oh yea Galen Rupp who are you to say what is impossible or not...the point of life is to make people believe that things are possible from shoes to running we push it to the limit!!! The biggest room in the world is the room for improvement

I like the shoe and I'm glad it won...plus it is for his girlfriend so every hater out there...back off!

ANYTHING is marketable, but that doesn't mean it's quality.

this is a serious question, not trying to make fun of them.. unless they are in fact mens spikes
maybe its a nice shoe for a middleschooler....
xDDD

Got friends on Facebook, Myspace, etc, you know, networking to your friends, try it!

Serious tho, I'd buy these for my girl today.
unique, great, and who doesn't like STARS
