Marathon Plans

September 29, 2008

The motivation for running a marathon has begun to stick in my soul like honey on ham. It has been a difficult and long road, but I have finally arrived to a peaceful state of mind. I returned from Cuba a little over one month ago, and have struggled to find my stride. The body hurts, my achilles pains, and my form feels stiff; yet these past weeks I have gradually progressed to 2 hour long runs, 5 minute miles, 1 - 10 minute hills, and 70 second quarters.

The past two weekends I have climbed mountains, canoed rivers and lakes, dipped in hot springs, watched the stars late into the night and into the dawn, with a blazing campfire to rekindle the soul. Fall in the cascades is truly magnificent at this august hour.

I have committed to the Monson Half Marathon near Boston November 9, the Seagate Turkey Trot in San Jose, November 27 and the CIM marathon in Sacramento December 7.

May fortune shine!

Gabriel

Gabe, what does this mean for your track career? obviously no indoor season, or a short one, but what are your thoughts for after the marathon?

About Gabe Jennings

Gabe Jennings has always “run” to the beat of his own drum. After becoming an Olympic Trials 1500 meter champion in 2000, and representing the United States in Sydney, Gabe suddenly took a hiatus from the sport. Following, a 6,000 mile bike ride to South America, featuring many adventures, Gabe began a comeback in the sport in 2006. Supported by the shoe sponsor Saucony, Gabe’s return to the track has been very successful. In 2007 he finished 3rd in the US championships indoor mile, and most recently had a strong 2008 campaign where he won several Oregon twilight meets and made the finals of the Olympic Trials 1500 meter race. Gabe continues to be an elite middle distance runner and one of the most intriguing individuals in the sport.
