We're here in Palo Alto and its a little cool and rainy. But nothing to worry about, this is Stanford, this is where PRs are made year in and year out! Somehow every year the meet seems to get stronger and stronger and tomorrow night will be no exception. We took a quick look at one event on each side, men's and women's. The 5k on the men's should be hot....in each of the first two heats. In heat 2, the US Junior 5k record of 13:37 (held by Galen Rupp) will be on the line as German Fernandez and Chris Derrick will match up. On the women's side, the 1500 will be a great one. There are many more races that we're excited for so check out the heat sheets and the meet schedule to see what going on LIVE tomorrow night on Flotrack. LIVE will start tomorrow at 5:15pm pst.

sorry, watching Celtics-Bulls tonight. imagine if these guys did the NBA preview....we'd all be laughing at them. but when we complain about our own track announcers, it's ok not to bash flotrack. double standard if you ask me.
I'm not quite sure I understand what you are saying.

We complain about track announcers, but the guys at Flotrack would be laughed at if they worked for the NBA?
One of the things that I love about this site's coverage, as I'm sure many others do, is that it does not attempt to be politically correct. Ramzi was just busted, and they called him on it. They support Lopez Lomong and cover him all the time, but when he reacted in an immature way to the outcome at the finish line at the 800m finals of the Olympic Trials they called him on it.
The NBA may appear more professional, but announcers like that batter you over the head with ingenuine enthusiasm. They prepare statements word-for-word because they have a formula. Meanwhile, Mark, Ryan, and whoever else is on the screen ad lib a lot of their speeches because they are geniunely interested and they talk about what matters to them as fans of track instead of trying to create some Cinderella story.

Ryan!!! Who do you think will win heat 2 of the 5K????

Gotta give props to the 'stache. Mark, understand though that with great power comes great responsibilty. You are a role model. Undoubtedly, many will now seek to emulate you and your "generalissmo" 'stache. Wear it proudly and with honor.

not trying to cause trouble, but I

Daniel Joiner 4 years ago

I am not wanting to trying to cause trouble, butI also wanted to comment that track is not golf and nobody needs to be wearing a green jacket when previewing a big time track meet. Most of us enjoy a good clean t-shirt and khaki shorts and wearing our favorite retired running shoes. Give them a break...they are living the life that most of us (if you are a frequent Flotrackr) wish we could have!

Daniel Joiner 4 years ago

Thanks for the info. I agree, but she probably needs to go for well under sub 15 in the 5k. What did she run indoors...like 15:01???

Unprofessional compared to what? The do a great job. And it's their site and they can say/dress how they want to.

Ryan looks good scruffy.

Barringer is running the 5k tonight! Can't wait. But I wish she was doing the steeple or 1500. She needs a race.

What is Barringer slated to run? Or is she?

They are not Lawyers or Doctors they do not need to look professional! They are Track and Field personalities! They need to stand out! No need for a suit and tie or clean cut!

Keep on doing what you are doing guys!
Track is back!

You guys are great - love the enthusiasm. The title picture for the video is pretty funny (Mark's hand gesture) if you're British!

i know this is a random question... but is alicia shay planning to come back competitively? she is a stanford alum and talking about this meet got me thinking about it. i really would like to see her come back and run well.

Hey Flotrack camera guys et al - I have a practical request for viewing these star-studded races: Not that this happens a lot, but PLEASE don't have the cameras zoom in on the top 2-3 people all the time - I want to see what's going on in the rest of the pack occasionally. You guys do a great job . . . I just want to see as much of it as I can! P.S. - The camera cart rocks!!
