Chasing times and meaningless championships meets are on the horizon.

That idea is ridiculous. Consistent performances should be rewarded, not peaking for a meet a month before the real championship.

Also, the Olympic standards were very clear, how did this hack not know who made the women's 10k?

Joseph Penishka 4 months ago

The fact that you guys didn't know who made it after that 10k just shows how ignorant flotrack announcers are. Did you seriously not check the qualifying rules before the trials. The rules were very clear and logical. And you guys wan't us to pay $20 a month to watch you announce stuff. This is just sad.

Your idea would not work as most countries do not hold trials like the US.

I agree with Darren Peters. At these huge meets you obviously cannot take 10 guys that might hit the A standard. It is up to the countries to make it as fair as possible, without biased decisions. That is going to be hard, especially if big names are present in the race. I personally think that since it is not the Olympics (not saying Worlds arent a big deal), so maybe take the top 4 or 5 best times. Unless there is a championship race held to decide the team make up, there really is not an ideal way to decide.

If this stays for the next few years, USATF could hold their national championship on July 29th in 2014 and 2015, so fans know who is going to world and international meets to represent USA.

This also gives colleges opportunities to hold track meets in the USA where local fans/ media can watch & support our athletes to get these international standards.
The new summer track meets add opportunities similar to USATF road racing circuit. The new track series could change the way college athletes transition to professional athletes. The new track series could change the structure of compensation for USA athletes with sponsors.
Sponsors have an opportunity to see how their sponsorship of athlete directly brings eyes to their product in domestic markets around the nation.
We could see a July 4th 5000 meter race at Mt SAC, Early July 400 meter race at Baylor, Mid July long and triple jump showcase in Gainesville and Shot put in Tempe.
USATF chairs like Ed Torres will have a clean slate to create new races and marketing opportunities for our nation's best.
