Your an A$$ of an interviewer!

Kim is awesome. I feel for her and hope that she finds a topnotch pt to treat her injury.
I am sure she'll be back and back out in front soon!

I LIKE THE PART WHERE SHE CRIES
That's not nice. Don't worry Kim, you will probably win a marathon in the near future. Keep your head up.

She did great on the course and great in the interview. She's a champ and will win one of these! I wonder how the rolling Boston course may have caused that; other athletes have mentioned what the hills do to your calves as well.

Heartbreaking interview...The worst part is that she felt the greatest she's felt ever. Good luck Kim and try to keep positive! Your day will come in the future, no doubt

Ryan did an amazing job interviewing Kim. Kept it personal but still was sensitive to the fact that she was having a breakdown. Best interviewer in that circle. Kim (although i do not like her form) was running at incredible speed and to feel like you are on top of the world only to be taken back down because of a unpredictable calf knot or strain is devastating. I smiled when Ryan was able to make Kim sincerely smile thinking about what Molly would say.

She is going to win a Marathon soon, she came out on fire and will do it again hopefully.
I cant believe there is NOBODY there with her. No friends, family, coach, anything!?

Very sad indeed. I too have had this happen and it is a muscle knot, not a tear. They don't go away overnight and no, you can't run on it. When it happened, she was cooked.

PT and ultrasound, with deep massage as in the elbow. When it triggers and cramps (knots) there is very little blood flow and therefore, PAIN! She will be back sooner than most of you think.
A decent runner friend of mine just had the same thing happen and he swore up and down that he torn it. I told him it was a muscle knot and it was verified. He did the above and is now running over an hour and a half for long runs but has to keep up the therapy using a roller.
Good luck Kim!

Yo Ryan, you are the best interviewer by far here. Good job.

Gotta agree with "sad"...cut the friggin' interview short and let her cry in private, put your arm around her, give her some encouragement. jesus, sometimes journalists can be clueless and heartless. that was a painful and sorta disgraceful display of insensitivity on their part.

Last week, albeit in training, but just last week Kim, I had mine do it too. Feeling you. Way to go for it!

Kim, God bless ya. You'll bounce back! Find a top notch PT in the area to work with and stay positive then you'll be back in no time! You couldn't have known what was going to unfold for you on this day. Don't regret anything. You're a super strong runner who showed some REAL guts out there today and you'll be back to Boston or another top marathon in no time ready to prove to everyone that you can WIN a big one!

Best regards!

She is in shock so stop asking questions with obvious answers.

Had to kill this vid after about 30 secs. Seeing her with a fricken mic in her face made me want to puke. Give her a break, ask a few questions and let her alone.

Speedy recovery Kim. You will come back stronger and even more hungry than before. Can't wait to see you back on top.

These kind of days suck as a competitor. Hugs to you Kim, you are brilliant--an inspiration to many of us who haven't got the balls to put it on the line.

Looks and sounds like a strained -or torn calf muscle; I had one and it is painful. It comes on suddenly and feels like you just got shot in calf or hit with a baseball bat. I hope it is not torn because if it is, she will be in a boot for about 2 weeks, no running at all for a couple more weeks and not back to full full training until late June sometime. if you come back too early, you can tear it again and the second tear is worst than the first one. Kim is a tough girl, the fact that she was able to even run a few strides after it happened; it generally stops you dead in your tracks, like a pulled hammy.

I am starting to see far more calf problems than in the past, I think it might have something to do with not doing enough training on hard surfaces.

"How are you feeling at the moment?" WTF. Dumb question. How do you think she's feeling? F'in moron interviewers.

Anonymous Coward 2 years ago

This is heartbreaking....I hope she can recover and have another crack at it

Kim, you will bounce back!
