As a multi-time all American at UC Riverside and NCAA runner up in 2009, Brenda proved her incredible potential by setting an 800m best of 2:00.85 in Europe later that summer, as well as running under 4:10 in the 1500m and beating many highly respected professional athletes along the way. Having qualified and competed in the 2008 Olympic trials as only a sophomore in college; as a junior, Brenda made the 800m finals at the US World Championship trials and was named the 2009 Big West Women's Track Athlete of the year.
